Don't you hate that feeling?
When you forgo a week of your life to study non stop, all the while you're not ACTUALLY retaining anything, and the subject is completely useless anyway?
And then you get to your exam, ready to put your knowledge to the test, and you realize, depsite the work and countless hours of studying, you actually know NOTHING, and spend the next three hours trying to BS answers for the entire exam using the only three concepts you can remember?
Welcome to my music history exam.
I will admit, I have in the past been the sort of person who says "I SO failed that" and ends up with an 85.
NOT THIS TIME.
I only eevn answered about 60% of that exam, and of that 60, only 35% were guaranteed marks, the rest was pure bull****.
So I'm pretty sure the verdict is about a 40%.
And I'd love to go drown my sorrows in a glass of red wine, but alas, I have my harmony exam to fail tommorow.
Ugh.
Someone please remind me why I'm taking music in university.....

Oh Bobby, if only it were that easy!
In my program we have a different history course each term....in first year we had ethnomusicology and romantic/20th century. This past term, in second year, I had baroque and classical (what I failed today.....although hopefully I didn't fail the entire course). Next term I have medieval/renaissance/gregorian. And next year i have this thing called colligeum musicum, it's like pre-chant.....I dont' even want to go there.
I hate the history curriculum- it really is quite pointless for a singer who just wants to perform.

Sounds like my entire Computer Science experience last year. I only, um, failed to fail because the final was take-home and I pretty much worked on it nonstop for a week. The moral of the story is that anything with the word "science" in it is pure, unadulterated evil. And, as always, I'm an idiot.
You, on the other hand, are going to be fine. *hugs*

This happened to me on Wednesday, JID! Except my exam was oral, so I'm there with two people who have Masters and PhDs and whatnot, and know everything there is about the subjects they're asking me about. There's no chance to bull****. Not fun.
And Plum, I completely agree with you that "anything with the word 'science' in it is pure, unadulterated evil".

oh Liam, I actually DID appreciate it- really- I wasn't being facecious!
hehe thanks for the support guys. I'm in a ****ty mood but that could also be because of the freezing rain and the fact that coffee prices are increasing. Oh and I have to study for harmony, which is tommorow.....I'm pretty sure I'll still pass the history course, just sucks because last year it was my highest mark...and now it's looking pretty dismal.
I DO love how the whole board is pink! It matches my room (and outfit for that matter) so well!

I had put off a couple assignments in English class, and never handed them in, now I have a 60 for the middle of the marking period! Yikes! That's what I get for procrastinating. I panicking and really have to step it up. It is tough this year, the work never ends!
But on a happier note I'm doing better in physics.

I have to qualify my original statement- political science is okay because it's fake science. *nods* Gotta love those social science. Pretending to be all scientific and stuff.
DG, thanks, but I really am an idiot. You'd think 4 years in a science high school would teach me to avoid the stuff, but nooo...
I hope your crappy mood passes, Judy. But I know finals are enough to make the best of us completely miserable. I don't even want to contemplate musicianship right now. *earnestly studies psychology*

Posted: 12/10/04 at 8:01pmPriest, thanks for those quotes, they were all great. And very appropriate for the many of us who are dealing with finals right now! I'm sure everything will work out, Judy. It's only one test, I don't think it could cause you to fail the class. And maybe you did better than you think! (Sometimes Profs curve them if everyone does poorly).

Priest, you're WONDERFUL!
And #1 Elphie, this prof is all about the bell curve. Problem is, this was the final, and everyone else thought they did well on it- meaning there probably won't be a need for a curve.
Oi.
i'll still pass the course, just would have been nice to do well! Thanks for the encouragement though! I must admit, falling on my as$ in front of my house on the icy sidewalk really made my day!

Awww I hate that, when you spend lots of time studying to the point where you actually think you might do well, and then it ends up going poorly. I'm sure that one test couldn't possibly keep you from graduating though... you'll just have to work a little harder for the next test. We're all rooting for you

Posted: 12/11/04 at 12:24amYeah, I totally know the feeling. I'd like to point out that according to my PART 100 exam, four of the most prominent lighting designers working in regional LORT theater today are Mary Poppins, Santa Claus, Bilbo Baggins, and Audrey 2.

Well, I was supposed to graduate this past spring but failed Chemistry so I took it again this semester and failed once more which means I have to take another science (not chemistry) next year so I can finally graduate. I hate Science. Plus, my school is being a dick by saying I owe them $1,700 and my parents and I have no clue why. I mean this is the same people who thought I was taking my class at the WRONG school and thought I took it this past summer instead of this semester. I mean, these people had to sign the sheet of paper saying I could take this class at another school and they don't even get the information right. Grrrrrr.........
Yes, Judy. Lets go get us some Catherine. Let's throw our worries away and get out our maps and equiment. I will bring the video camera for you and Catherine's porn scene.
