U.S. hospitals seem to vary a lot with state by state safety requirements re locks. Pharmacys for example have locks.( tho u'd never know from House!) Certain doors to the nursery may have locks. ( lot of hospitals now practice nursing- in w baby @ the bed side) Some ICU's have lock codes- others don't. Most O.R.'s and L& D don't have locks.
In Pt psych in a GENERAL hospital prob has A locked area for @ risk pts.( ie suicide) but mostly its close observation.( 1 to 1)
Usually there is no "switch" to lock down fire exits most are geared to alarm if opened otherwise its the opposite- an alarm triggers the release of the magnets holding the doors.( I know this crap cos I worked on our hospital accreditaion one yr)
