has anyone had experience with baby bunnies?#0

late last night/early this morning, the temperature dropped and one of the babies died. the other five were very cold and not moving much. I brought them in and warmed them up in a towel, and they are looking OK now.
However, they have been inside (it's way too cold outside) and away from the nest, will the mom still feed them? We think she has been feeding them, but this morning, they were scattered, cold, and wet.
Does anyone have expirience with anything like this?

Thanks
we do have a vet but I have already called two times this morning. (once when i found the dead baby, once when i brought them inside)
I didn't speak to a vet I spoke to a tech because there is only one vet right now (ours is on vacation) and they're really busy. I'm going to call them later though because they told me to keep them posted.

Abba, I passed your message on to a friend of mine who's had lots of experience with animals, and here's what she said ... if she has anything further to add, I'll pass it on too ...
(sorry ... the double brackets before hid the text) ...
"she needs to put them on a towel on top a heating pad...she can also feed them the same formula pet stores have for kittens...they may by this point have some for baby bunnies..they didn't when I last nursed bunnies...she needs to keep them warm and fed every two hours...also help them potty by gently wiping their tummies with a wet warm wash cloth..Good luck!"
Hope that helps! This person is really good with animals, I trust her to know what she's talking about. I emailed her again to ask about whether the mother bunny will still feed them or not, will pass that reply on once I hear from her again. .... Okay, just did ... here's what she said about that:
"if they can bring her in with them they should and just watch to make sure she takes care of them...there may be something wrong with her..she may be sick and that is why she isn't caring for the babies...they keep them in warm nests so this shouldn't be happening."

Thanks...
If you email her again, be sure to tell her they are nine days old :)
They can already eliminate by themselves, but I will use a heating pad under the towel for them.
We bought KRM to feed them and I will try to feed again in two hours. Thank you so much.

You know, as much as I don't like you, if you needed help with something that I knew about, I would help you.
This is hard enough for me. Thanks for making me feel that much worse.

Posted: 6/16/05 at 10:10pmI've had a lot of experience with very young kittens, and I'm also going to go with the heating pad suggestion. Put it inside a pillowcase, then put a towel over it so it doesn't get too hot, but make sure they can get to it and be warm. That's really important.

As an old vet tech, here is my 2 cents worth: Unfortunately, I don't think the momma rabbit will go near the babies anymore; once they have "human scent" on them, she will abandon the nest. Look for contact information for your state's wildlife conservation office( a local vet would know); they usually have someone designated to raise wildlife.
The covered heating pad is a necessity and they can feed on Esbilac or goat's milk, but do try to get some professional help. Please keep us posted on their progress. I wish you the best of luck.....

Until freedom rules the people of this land, instead of fear, love has about as much a chance as a baby bunny drowning in a vat of boiling water...
Sorry, I hope the baby bunnies are doing alright.

UPDATE!
When we went outside this morning to get Patches, she was standing in their old nest. We brought her inside and she fed them all :)
I takled to my friend who worked in a vet's office, and she told me that sometimes rabbits can get confussed and not know how to keep the babies warm and safe, which is what she thinks happened.
We are still bottle-feeding the runt a few drops every couble of hours as he is dehydrated, but it's nice that she will still feed them. I think it's because he knows us and knows my scent enought that she isn't going to abandon them.
It's day 10, so their eyes shoudl be opening soon.
Thank for everyone's advice :) I really really appreciate it. I was having a really bad day yesturday after finding them like all cold and not moving much and finding one dead
but I really apreciate everyone trying to help.

ok my dog likes eating rabbits and we have rabbits running around our house so in summer when my dog gets out he finds the nest.
one time i found 3 living babies that were hurt and i nursed them back to health! see when i was younger my brothers boy scout group was cleaning the field next door and we found a rabbits nest there mom had been run over with a lawnmower so we raised them now rabbits love our house! its a shelter for them! LOL :)

Well, when I had domestic rabbits we always kept them in a cages inside the barn, and their cages had wooden houses so they could all hide and sleep in there......
However, my dog would sometimes discover baby cottentails in the pasture, (one he brought them to the house)and we used a heating pad to keep them warm and kept them in a box and we fed them with an eyedropper. Both times they grew up just fine, just be careful not to get the heating pad too hot!!!!!!
If it's too cold, then get them all out of the cold!!!!!!
Soon as they get bigger, I can assure you that they are a lot more fun!!!!!!

I;m just thankfull Patches nursed them this morning... I guess she's not as un-maternal as we thought :)

I think the whole thing about mothers not accepting their young when humans touch them really applies to birds, but I could be wrong......
At any rate with domesticated animals it's probably not as strong as with wild animals......
Are you letting the mother stay with them inside??????

We bring the mother inside durring the day to see them... they all go crazy when she's near them and she just kind of hops around... she likes being inside because she likes to lay on the couch all stretched out. :)
