not a sit-com, but a show with a guest. SNL, Leno, Conan, Martha, Jon Stewart, what have you.
if so, who were the guests of the day?
I was at Letterman a few years back, and Star Jones was the guest, with Blink 182 as the musical guest.
both segments were bad. but Letterman was wonderful.

I saw Howard Stern and Alanis Morisette on Letterman.
Went to Martha Stewart last year for Sho Bean performing from Wicked on Halloween.
Saw Deborah S Craig and the cast of Spelling Bee on Tony Danza.
Upcoming The View on Tuesday to see Tarzan cast perform.
Of course, been to the Today show and GMA a lot when Broadway people perform.
And I have an audition and will be in the audience for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 3 weeks.

Went to the Carolina Rhea Show and Susan Lucci was a guest, as well as some guy from one of those ER type TV shows. Maybe another person, but I forget.
I was also outside the Today Show and was on TV with Suzanne Somers last month.

Also it was around Halloween once when I went and we got a bucket full of candy.

I've been to quite a few tapings, many different types. Unfortunately they are usually pretty lame and truncated. That whole waiting process at the beginning is really a waste of time. I like when they feed you and have prizes.
My ultimate favorite was Sally Jessy Raphael towards the end of her run. LOL, I have never seen a more enthusiastic host or audience. Sally came out and sincerely interacted with the audience and their was tons of food. The guests were trashy and awesome. I have to say it was one of the funniest days of my life. I wish she would come back. We need trash on daytime TV again, enough of this nice crap already.
Most times the hosts don’t even involve themselves with the audience. Martha is just awful and I was surprised she didn’t try harder. Oprah and Rosie give great stuff and have better guests. SNL is kinda like the Macy’s Parade, better on television. Live sporting events like football just suck because it is nothing but downtime during commercials.

Regis and Kathie Lee in the '90s. I don't remember who the guests were! I do remember how engaging and nice Regis was...coming out into the audience, chatting people up, etc. Kathie was a bitch, made eye contact with no one, was complaining loudly about something to the crew when the cameras were off, etc. Cold fish.

A moment from my Rosie show vist:
Once during a taping during a commerical break, I went to with my aunt, my aunt got up to go the bathroom and a seatfiller sat down next to me and I kept trying to tell him to get up because that was my aunt's seat. {I was maybe 10 or 11 years old at the time.} and he kindly told me he was a seatfiller. Apparently Rosie had seen my aunt get up and screamed out "Is she okay? Little boy, is she okay?" and I was in awe that she was even talking to me I just responded "I don't know." The audience cracked up laughing. When my aunt returned, Rosie responded "Oh thank god you're back, we though you died."

Posted: 11/9/06 at 1:00pmDuring my trip to New York last year I got the chance to be in the audience of TRL. Guests were 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, and Hilary Duff. They were actually having one of those "Introduce New Artist" weeks and Ne-Yo did a performance for the show. I had fun, and the place where they tape the show is pretty small. Looks bigger on television.

She was AWFUL! I mean, not even a smile in between takes. Just miserable, complaining, huffing off set for something. Kathie and Regis were like night and day.
Oh, yeah...I forgot about Carson Daly. I was in the audience when the reunited Duran Duran performed about a year and a half ago. Carson was boring and bland--just like you'd expect--but I met Roger Taylor (still gorgeous) and Nick Rhodes in the hallway and got to see them perform for free, which was worth it! I also got to see the Von Blondies, who were the guest musical band, and they were excellent.

I've been in the audience at Letterman on four separate occasions. The guests I saw each time were:
1) Ed Norton, Dido
2) Marv Albert, Charlotte Ross
3) Cedric the Entertainer, Laird Hamilton
4) Dennis Leary, David Wright, and the Wreckers

I saw Letterman in one of the shows soon after Sept. 11, so it was a somewhat subdued version. Kate Beckinsale and Chris Kattan were the guests.
I also went to Regis & Kelly a few years ago as part of a convention I was attending. Regis was out, and Randy Jackson was the guest host. He was kind of a dud, but Kelly couldn't have been sweeter. The guests were James Garner, Nicole Ritchie and a performance from Little Shop (then starring Joey Fatone).
When they did the thing where the caller picks a number for an audience member to win a prize, Joey Fatone's dad was in the seat that won. They gave the prize to someone else after they finished the show.

A lot of stages here in NYC are small because they used to be for radio shows (Rosie, SNL). They use a wide-angle lenses to create an illusion of more space.
