yes, erik. really, really. she won't have been the dumbest ever to occupy the office nor the most inexperienced.
"she won't have been the dumbest ever to occupy the office nor the most inexperienced."
Maybe not. But she'd definitely place.
dammit, jim, she's a governor, not a damn miracle worker!
She'd be the scariest. Her response to the 3:00 a.m. phone call?
"First Dude? Wake up. Wake UP, will yah! Stop thinkin' about Carrie Underwood gettin' a Kennedy Center Honor. Not this year, Babe. Listen up, do we like (fill in the blank with the country in question)? By like, I mean, are they good or evil? I gotta know now. You think evil? Okay, fine, let's take 'em out, and talk about this in the morning"

Now that's a qualification!
I'm impressed.
Well I don't know who you think is dumber be she is certainly in the dumbest in my lifetime. And shouldn't our standards be going up instead of down?
It's not secret that I was no fan of Bush but the thought that this idiot has gotten this close to the White House scares the crap out of me in a way Bush never did.
Seriously...if she ever does become President we'll be the laughing stock of the world...and for good reason.
And the best thing you can say about the VP candidate on your ticket is that she's not the dumbest person to hold the office???
Since when have our standards for who is in the White House sunk so low?

first of all, the only veep who would have put me off mac would have been huck - such is my disdain for the democrat's nominee. second of all, i think getting elected governor of a state is good enough to get someone on the presidential ticket as a veep. everyone here seems dead certain that mac is going to drop dead on day one. sheesh. i know he's older than noah, but he might just survive the four years. maybe.
besides, it's the gop. we put quayle up. twice!! you expect us to get standards now? after 8 years of dubya? yer lucky we bothered to put a human on the ticket.
she's only there because we were unable to revive francis the talking mule. could you imagine? the first mule veep candidate ever being on the gop ticket?? it woulda been a lights out ticket!

That's more than could be said about my brother. For my Grandmother's birthday, he gave her copies of "Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That's Bringing Common Sense Back to America" by Huckabee, "How Would Jesus Vote: A Christian Perspective on the Issues" by Kennedy and Newcombe and "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality". He followed up with a couple of racist jokes I will not repeat. And to this day, he still believes "Rush is Right". And that is only the tip of this rather frightening iceberg. For the last two years, I've been trying to cope with the fact that we can't even be friends any more. Not just because of our conflicting religious/political views, but for an enormous pileup of issues occuring within the family. The fear and stress have started taking its toll on me.

I think it will be a little more serious than that. Watch America slip into the "Third World" category.

We already are.
My partner and I are traveling to Egypt and then London next year.
The advice from all our friends who travel abroad?
"Tell everyone that you are from Canada."
Very true, WindyCityActor. I'm an avid traveller, and all over Europe they have been laughing at the US for years. My partner and I have resorted to telling people we're from Canada. If McCain/Palin The Ass get elected, what little respect any foreign country has for us will go down the drain. Europeans already think Americans are stupid, and then if we are stupid enough to elect stupid leaders again ... after 8 years of the Bush fiasco ... its just frightening.
I travel to Europe ever year and the only real problem I had with attitude towards Americans was in England, but that may be because I'm usually traveling with a European (except the summers I spent in London in 99 and 01). Regardless, most of the Europeans I have encountered are pretty cognisant of the fact that not all Americans support the Bush administration. I let them know I understand their bewliderment and frustration and that I was one of the majority that did not vote to reelect Bush.

Mister Matt, this is true. Europeans know America is divided. It's good to remind them that there are more people who oppose the Bush (and perhaps McCain/Palin) Administration than there are citizens of their country.
However, there is a growing resentment towards America in Europe from Spain to Russia. But this is not the main problem. It's what happens when the American economy truly collapses and the political system is out of control that Europeans and Americans need to worry the most about.
Well...maybe not Spain.

Yes, Spain.
Remember 11 March 2004? I lot of people blamed America for making Spain a target. Of course, it's not that simple.
There is resentment .
I have American friends who travelled to Barcelona and Tarragona last year who faced outright hostility in local pubs and restaurants.
I know what you're saying. I just have a bit of a special connection to Spain, which is probably why I never experience those problems there. I've been to the train station in Madrid that was bombed several times. I'd be curious to know what happened to your friends.

I have a connection to Spain, too.
My friends were told and not politely to go back to America and keep America's problems in America. Not anything provoking a fight, but enough to let them know they were not welcome, at least not by them.
