my computer got a virus and i don't know how to get rid of it! norton keeps telling me it's found, but it's not doing much else. it's some kind of downloader virus and i'm not sure how i got it. i don't think i can send it to anyone. i've tried going a few places to help and all they do is scan my computer. anyone know how i can get rid of it?? thanks for the help!!
That's a bummer! Sad to hear of your Virus problem but unfortunately I can't offer much help (except to bump this thread) since I use a Mac and Symantec recently declared OS X to be Virus Free. Maybe there is a PC user that can offer you some help. Best of luck.
thanks pab!

1) download and install avg anti-virus software - it often catches things McAfee & Norton don't and it's much much easier on your computer resources http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
2) if this is something avg can't remove please post the exact message you're getting or the name of the virus/trojan you're encountering - some things need to be removed manually
Try running a Norton scan in safe mode. I had a virus for the longest time that could only be removed in safe mode. Eventually the detection rules were updated to where it could remove it, but in the meantime it kept it quarantined.
I had a Trojan thing recently, early spring, after not having anything for several years, the worms the last I recall. Norton isolated it quickly, and I was able to delete. What surprised me was its appearance without a download. I didn't know a Trojan horse could enter without clicking on some kind of download. The secret is updates, and a firewall. I methodically check in with my Norton Live updates.
When you get the name of this one, please post.
i think i'm getting somewhere finally
here's what comes up in the box...

Can you just manually go into C:/WINDOWS/System32 and delete the file? I don't know if that'll help.
