iPod Trouble. Can Anyone Help?

I was getting error messages on my iPod so I installed an update, as reccomended by the website. Now no music appears in my iPod, although it's all still in iTunes, and in the settings of my iPod it says that I still have as many songs as I did before although none of them show up. (Confusing, huh?)
Also, when I go to update the iPod by connecting it to the computer as usual, nothing happens, except the iPod charges. Does anyone know anything about these things that could help? Or is there a phone number for help that I could call? (I searched online but couldn't find anything)
Thanks. :)

I'm not sure why they hide their support phone numbers, but here you go:

Your user manual should explain how to reset the iPod. Depending on the model, there's a specific series of buttons to push in a certain order. Basically, it will erase everything on there, and you can start over. Since everything is still on iTunes (and hopefully still on your computer), you can just plug in to the computer and it will reload.
If that doesn't work, then try taking it to an Apple store. If you bought it within the last year (and have proof of that), they'll fix it for free, or just hand you a new one (that's what happened to a friend of mine...brand new iPod because the guy couldn't do a quick fix right there).
