#1iTunes cleared my iPod!
Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:13pmHas this happened to anyone else? I plugged my iPod in to my computer last night, and it said, "Name your iPod", which was a little odd. I did...and then it decided to delete about 1700 of my songs (the ones that weren't in iTunes). Soo...after alost crying because about 75% of my songs were gone, I just got over it. I ran upstairs to my laptop (where most of my music is) and put many of the songs back on. I came back downstairs and plugged my iPod back in to my computer I was on before--and it AGAIN--deleted my music that wasn't on the computer. Anyone know why iTunes is all of a sudden acting up? It had never done this before...and is there any way to make it stop doing this? Thanks in advance!

Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:18pmI didn't know you could have songs on your ipod that weren't also in your itunes. Where did you upload them from?

Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:21pmYeah, I'm wondering the same thing. iTunes only puts music on your iPod that is actually in iTunes.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:22pmWas this the same computer that you usually use to update/charge your iPod? If not, was this a PC and your laptop a Mac or the other way around?

Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:24pmIt sounds like "synchronize" is turned on. If you turn that option off, you shouldn't have a problem keeping music on your iPod that isn't in iTunes.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 5:29pmYeah, the normal action for an iPod and iTunes to work is to make sure that all the music on iTunes is on your iPod, and not any that isn't. You renaming the iPod tied it to the other computer, and synchronized those libraries. Not sure how you avoided it before.

How to check if it's set to synchronize:

Posted: 7/25/07 at 6:39pmWere the songs it was asking about purchased through iTunes? The newest version of iTunes supports transfer from iPod to iTunes for songs purchased from Itunes.

You can set your ipod so that you manually manage the files on it. You can also use it as an external hard drive when in this mode. in any event, that's what makes it possible for there to be songs on your ipod that arent on your itunes.
It sounds to me like you somehow set your ipod to synchronize without realizing it..... that's how it got wiped.

I think somebody updated our iTunes (to the new version) which may have automatically had it set to synchronize.
That or my iTunes is not a fan of Hannah Montana, chicolini.

Well, there you go. With Hannah Montana in rotation, I'm surprised the ipod didn't self-destrcut. After all, you're only a handful of chromosomes away from 'Achy Breaky Heart'.

Posted: 7/26/07 at 8:53pmI switched it to manual the other night--and now it won't even CONNECT to this computer. Well, it will--but it will ONLY let me use it at as an external hard drive (meaning it won't even show up in iTunes).

First I'd try restarting iTunes, if that doesn't work, restart your computer.
If it's mounting as an external drive, it should show up eventually - but sometimes it doesn't go exactly as planned.

OK, I'm sorry to completely threadjack and steal Parks thunder, but I have an iTunes question as well and would hate to make another unnecessary thread.
When buying TV shows off iTunes, which I've never done before, it says I can buy a "season pass" to a show, which means that it will download all the current and future episodes onto my iTunes. As it stands, the season I want is $16. My question is, will it charge me more for future episodes?

I believe as long as the future episodes are part of the season you bought, you don't pay extra.
No promises though (c:
