Really bad naming story:
My mother wanted to name me Jessie, and my father wanted to name me Jessi, but they couldn't agree on whether there should be an "e" or not, so they named me Jessica and just call me Jessie. It's funny now though because my dad writes Jessie with the "e" now anyway.
See, I warned you...

My father always insisted my christened middle name was Ann, but my mother disagrees, so my dad went off and got married again and gave his daughter from that marriage my middle name. Hmmph.
So a few years ago, I decided to honor my Irish heritage and take a Gaelic middle name - Rathnait, which means wealth, grace, and charm.

I've Irish heritage too, Rath! My sister's called Blathin (pronounced Blaw-heen), which means little flower!

My childhood friend, who is now a brilliant research scientist with a PhD and is out there changing the world, likes to call me Ratbait. :) We stay children with our childhood friends, no matter what we grow up to be.

My mother really wanted to name me Tatiana, but my dad has a second cousin by that name and was against it.
She also came close to naming me Liesl (yes, like in The Sound of Music), but my dad was against that one as well. He thought it would sound like I was destined to wear Lederhösen and yodel.
And the entire time my mother was pregnant they referred to me as Ferdinand.
(yes, they knew I was going to be a girl... turns out my parents' sense of humor runs along the same line as that of my Twin's parents. Fun coincidence, eh?)

The kicker to my full name is that my middle name is:
The last name of the guy who owned the gin mill my dad used to drink at!
For a while I had issues with that -- but I got over it! It does, after all, have certain panache!

I was going to be Megan Elisabeth if I was a girl, and my mother really wanted to call me Jesse James (in Australia we don't know much about Jesse James,I don't think my mother even put the two together).
They settled on Jamie
I have lots of friends/cousins with good gaelic names. One of my closest friends is Aisling (ash-lin), I have a cousin called Niamh (knee-ve) and I know I have more cousins with other ones, but they are so obscure I can't remember them! It's strange, that side of the family is Scottish!

I was going to be Cassandra, but my mom didn't like Cassie, so I was saved.
We were going to name our first daughter Morgan, but at the very last minute we changed our minds, which really upset my side of the family. Whatever!
So, with our second daughter, before she was born we told everyone we were going to name her India Skye as a joke. You should have seen the reactions of disbelief. Like they get a vote in what we name our kids.
I always have to keep telling myself that friends are the family you choose and family are the strangers you are stuck with.

i'm now tempted to call matt melisa.
me mum almost named me "julia" which i prefer to my actual name, and not just because of the beatle balled on the white album john wrote for his deceased mum, julia. anyway my real name is lame lame lame so i think i'd rather go by my middle name, brooke. anybody like that one? also i think if i had been a dude i would've been "jonathan" which is kinda boring but does have the "tick tick boom" and "jonny b good" connection.
