why not instead table all discussion of impeachment for the time being.
yeah, that's gonna happen, pj. here and elsewhere. i bet you won't even hear the word until november 8th...if things go your way. which i still maintain they won't and i'll be working quite hard to ensure that.

For now, impeachment is a Republican issue not a Democratic one.
It's just a wedge issue for the Republicans to use to scare their disaffected former supporters into going to the polls: Vote or us or those awful Dems will do to George Bush what we did to Bill Clinton! Don't stay from the polls because you're fed up with us--vote to reelect us!

Let me introduce you to the ranking Democrat of the House Committee on the Judiciary. He's the likely Chair if the Dems regain power in the House and he's not afraid of bringing charges.

Notice that nowhere in that article does Conyers mention impeachment.
This what the inspirational Representative Conyers has to say on the subject: "This isn't something we have to do right away."
As I said before, impeachment is a Republican issue, not a Democratic one.

I think you're totally off base believing it's a wedge issue for Republicans. They're jumping off the Bush bandwagon like rats off a sinking ship.
My (very Democratic) neighborhood is full of 'Impeach Bush' lawn signs.

". . . have to stop behaving as if they're afraid."
All that necessitates is for them to stop BEING afraid - of being rejected. Take a stand, and stand by it. I'm not sure any of them can - unfortunately.

i can see a commercial with john conyers holding his meetings in the basement, with the itmfa bumper stickers, lotsa shots of nancy pelosi being and the old "top reasons for impeaching bush" from democrats.com being effective in cementing the image of impeachment as a clear democratic goal. i also agree with those here who are unafraid to state clearly what they believe. stand up and sing out, you who are unafraid.
it's a bit disingenuous for those who have trumpeted the cause of impeachment for months to now go silent on the issue.

Posted: 8/21/06 at 10:48amBy 'he' do you mean Conyers? He is still saying it - just not using the word because Dems can't impeach given the current make up of Congress. The Republicans would quash any attempts to bring charges right now. But he can say what he sees as Bush's violations and the possible resulting charges. I'm not sure most Americans understand what impeachment really is anyway. By using more common expressions - violations, unconstitutional, breaking the law, etc. - the electorate can better understand and will pay more attention.

I don't think screaming "impeach" is REALLY going to have a negative impact on Democrats, nor will it have a positive impace on Republicans.
Of course, if every Dem were running on an "impeach Bush" campaign policy right now, Rove could no doubt spin it into gold...but I think it's another of those false issues right now.

Hey, I'm all for impeachment. But what I'm REALLY for is for our Congress to grow a set and start investigating what exactly has been going on here with the Bush Administration and find real and reasonable proof requiring an impeachment.

Exactly. And what I'm REALLY for is ending this unfortunate era Republican hegemony. If that means practicing delayed gratification in terms of censure, impeachment, conviction and resignation, so be it.
It's like practicing tantric politics.

Posted: 9/17/06 at 3:57amD'you realise if you impeach the president now, it'll completely destroy what little thread was holding this all together? I mean, yeah, he's a thick twat, but he's got America deep into this mess, and getting rid of him before it's absolutely necessary is just as thick. You can't just change your mind in the centre of a war.

last night Laura Flanders had Richard A. Viguerie, a longtime republican strategist on her program. he said that many republicans DONT want to win this next midterm election because they dont this to be "their" mess anymore.

Posted: 9/17/06 at 10:35amHere we go again(sighs). You know it's funny how no one thought that Clinton should've been impeached. Clinton has his 8 years in office and we had to put up with him, now it's their turn to do the same with Bush. Reason why people don't like Bush is because he don't take any nonsence from anyone unlike Clinton who just about letted everyone do what they want. Guess what people, party's over.

So, RTfan, I assume you have signed up for the military and are willing to go serve the cause in Iraq.
I am sure any military recruiter would love to have you.
