i'm acutally new to this board and i don't know if this has been posted before, i tried to do a search but couldn't find anything
after reading a lot of message boards and seeing everyone's passion and love for broadway (kind of obvious in the first place, being as that this is BWW.com), i decided to post a message for all the broadway lovers.
To everyone, or most people here on this board, broadway has played a huge role in their lives. I think it would be interesting and cool to hear everyone's stories about how they came to love broadway...maybe there was a certain experience, a certain show, etc. Or people can just post their appreciation for broadway and it's significane in their life
have a good day everyone

Welcome welcome! I am Jer. This board can get highly addicting, just a warning.
I always saw musicals when I was younger and absolutely loved them because they were so energetic, so fun, and so awesome. As I got older, I began to appreciate theater on levels deeper than just sensory.
Welcome !!!
I think the broadway love bug bit me after seeing my parish production of "Lil'Abner" when I was about 5 years old..an older cousin on mine was in it..and I thought...I'd like to do that someday...and the story goes on.
(I should be reading for my final...what am I doing? I'm on BWW...beware Rach, this place is addicting!)
I grew up on movie musicals. The music always touched me because of its ability to tell a story and express such emotion. I saw a few musicals when I was growing up because of field trips and such, but I never saw a real musical until I was 15. I went on school trip to NYC and I saw Miss Saigon. It was so tragically beautiful and breath-taking. I can't explain how moved I was by that show. Then in college a friend took me to see the touring company of Rent. I sat there with tears running down my face for 90% of the second act. I had never been so touched. I was hooked. Since then I have been as much of a Bway fanatic as possible here in Kentucky.
I've always attended various little children's theater productions when I was younger. I believe my first real professional show was the touring cast of 42nd Street, and my first Broadway show was Thoroughly Modern Millie. I was about 15 years old when I started getting into Broadway.
I think mine came genetically - through my dad. He was a very handsome man with a gorgeous voice. He really loved the stage and he should have had an opportunity to be a performer. Unfortunately he grew up in a very conservative family and was raised to believe that anything like that was just irresponsible and immature. So he got an office job and worked like a dog his whole life to support his own loving family. His outlet was to take us to every movie and stage musical he possibly could. I love the theatre - but my love is only a fraction of his. I hope he's dancing and singing up a storm in heaven right now!

I saw the operetta "Hansel and Gretel" at age five. I was completely captivated. My mother took me to every school, community and touring production she could find. The first Broadway production I saw was Our Town with Henry Fonda in 1969 (yes, I'm really that old).
Notice how many of us fell in love with theatre at an early age. It's so important to provide opportunities for children to experience the magic of live theatre.

I was always a huge fan of sound of music and mary poppins when I was younger (still am of course) and i think those two movies made me into the broadway lover that I am. My first real show was Les Mis in NY and I fell even more in love with whole broadway experience!
The evil machine that is the new corporate Broadway paid my rent for most of 2004 and enabled me to buy many pretty things.
Long live Broadway!
for me, it was seeing the Mikado for the first time.......and that naturally led to Broadway
