I have 21 mosquito bites at the moment.
Knock on wood, but I haven't contracted west nile YET.
Is it just because I live on Lake Ontario, or do you USA people have major moquito infestations too? And has West Nile hit the States yet? (For all I know it could have started there....)

Posted: 7/20/04 at 11:50pmI had eight all in the same general area on my back. Then my shirt got stuck to the calamine lotion. Pfft. I hate mosquitos. I feel for you.

Posted: 7/20/04 at 11:50pmWe do have West Nile here. We get many mosquitos in GA. I haven't heard of too many cases of West Nile in my area though.

Posted: 7/20/04 at 11:52pmThat's horrible. Mojitos, on the other hand, are not so horrible.

Posted: 7/20/04 at 11:56pmI had a bight on my arm last week which was weird, becasue I've lived here in San Diego all my life and I never got a mosquito bight while in my house it was only when I went camping for the first time when I was like 13 that I even knew what a mosquito was...

I've been chasing one around my room for 20 minutes now trying to kill it. But I have dye in my hair at the moment, which is making it quite difficult. This one's already got my ankle and my shoulder.

There is a literally a swamp in my backyard, so I used to get eaten up all the time as a kid.
I think that's why I'm afraid to go outside now.
Hmmm...
Stay away from bananas during mosquito season.
I swear that the more bananas I eat, the more bug bites I get.

One time I read the label wrong, and sprayed area spray directly onto my skin. THAT wasn't pretty.

As I sit here scratching my 10 plus bites, I'm fearing the same thing re: West Nile. So far, there have been 4 cases in Miami-I do not want to be the fifth.... We called mosquito control, but they have yet to spray here.
Yuck.

Posted: 7/21/04 at 2:08pmMosquitos seem to love me.... I currently have 39 bites all over my body, and since I have a minor allergic reaction whenever I get bitten, most of my body is swollen up like a balloon at the moment. Supposedly, if you stand near a person who gets bitten a lot, the mosquitos will leave you alone and just go for the person you are with. This must be why I am so popular in the summer...

Posted: 7/21/04 at 2:22pmThere aren't really any mosquitos down here....Ah, I love valleys. Except for the whole trapping-heat thing.

Posted: 7/21/04 at 3:06pmWe have a severe mosquito problem here on Long Island (New York) as well. I've had to give up on my efforts to raise koi or water lilies in my backyard pond--it seems it was always a breeding ground for mosquitos. Instead, I have the pond and fountain operating with chlorine in the water. It looks and sounds pretty, but it smells like a municipal swimming pool.
re: mosquitos#19
Posted: 7/21/04 at 3:13pmI'm sure one of Jerry Baker's books has a better solution for you than using chlorine. I would check it out. Maybe you can put some plants and koi back without worrying.
