moulin rouge...god save me!

awful, just awful. singing songs that weren't written, stupid slapstick injected into a ridiculous (sp?) plot filled with characters i didnt care about. thank god for the sets and dancing or i woulda gone mad.

but... sfter talking to some friends it seems that i'm the only 1 who thinks that, am i alone?

re: moulin rouge...god save me!

1. Some of the songs were indeed written for the movie ("Come What May", "Someday I'll Fly Away", etc.)
2. I feel that the slapstick interjected into the serious plot allows for a broader range of emotion, and helps to illuminate the painful parts.
3. The plot is no more ridiculous than that of RENT. Why? Because they're the same story. (Yes, that's right. I went there.)
4. I agree that the dancing and the sets are fun, but frankly, I was about half a step away from a visual migraine at times. The acting and the music are really what I prefer.

I have gotten into many a heated discussion over this movie. I think what it boils down to is that it's an acquired taste. Some people watch it and think, "I just saw the best movie EVER". Some people watch it and think, "What the hell did I just see?"
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

re: moulin rouge...god save me!

You think that movie is strange? I was flipping through the TV channels on Thanksgiving, and landed on somehting called "A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" which featured a parody called "MOULIN SCROOGE", with Kermit & Miss Piggy in the Ewan and Nicole roles, and Fozzie Bear (with a big moustache)as the Master of Ceremonies. They recreatred the whole opening sequence, with Miss Piggy decending on a swing to sing "Santa Baby", a group of chicken chorus girls, and Kermit yelling "Why is everyone singing different songs at the same time?"

re: moulin rouge...god save me!

Just wanted to say Moulin Rouge is one of my favorites movies and THANK GOODNESS finally someone agrees with me that Moulin Rouge is a poorly concealed take-off of La Boheme/Rent. Tsk, tsk, Mr. Baz, tsk, tsk.

re: moulin rouge...god save me!

I thought it was okay, not the greatest though. Sometimes the storyline was hard to follow, and sometimes there was just too much happening on screen at once that it was just sot of hard to watch. I give the director an 'A' for effort though...
Here in this cold white room tied up to these machines, it's hard to imagine life as it used to be. Laughing, screaming, tumbling queen... Like the most amazing light show you've ever seen. Whirling, swirling, never blue... How could you go and die? What a selfish thing to do... RIP Jason

re: moulin rouge...god save me!

This is my 2nd favorite movie ever (Rocky Horror being my 1st). I thought it was brilliant- I've watched so many times. The music was really great, the story was...well, it reminded me of RENT/La Boheme, which I love. And I love most of Baz's works, so this was no different.
I have my books and my poetry to protect me...
