my computer keeps freezing up/Mozilla(?)

I'll try to do something like send a PM and it'll just stop working. I tried to click on a link my computer gave me after sending the error report to see if it had any advice, but that is frozen now too. This only happens with IE, too, never AIM or any other program. What's going on?

re: my computer keeps freezing up

Maybe there's just something wrong with IE... when my computer crashed, the people who fixed it told me there have been a lot of issues with it lately, and that I should stop using it. They suggested Mozilla; apparently it's easier and safer.

How do you get whatever Mozilla is? Is it a huge project and/or expensive to install?

It's been doing this for a while now, but today it happened three times in a row and it's getting on my nerves.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

I think it's free, but the school people installed it for me. My roommate installed it herself, for free. Google it, if you can get IE to work for that long? Or, just add if to your subject line - I know people on here are knowledgeable about it.

Ok...

I'm rather afraid of installing it myself- Emcee, next time you see her, could you kindly ask her how difficult it is?

re: my computer keeps freezing up

It's very easy; she's not much of a computer person. Someone on here would know how to do it (Plum! Where are you?!) But I can ask my roommate tonight if I get to talk to her.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox all by myself, so trust me, it's not that difficult! I absolutely love it! Actually, I think I got the suggestion from someone on BWW. You can do it, Nia!!

re: my computer keeps freezing up

I haven't started using it yet, even though it's set as my default browser. I'm so attached to IE, so I'm making the transition very, very slowly.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

firefox is a great browser....easy download and simple interface -- you add the plug-in YOU want -- not what Microsoft wants you to want....love the TABS concept

KMF, could you explain the tabs to me? I hate change, and I'm still set in my IE ways.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

just a variation of multiple windows -- similar to having Excel workbook open with many pages/tabs in one file....just a neat and easy way to navigate...

re: my computer keeps freezing up

So one window would have multiple tabs, rather than having say... four windows open? Nice.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

I've been having horrible problems with IE since I got back. I just downloaded Mozilla as I read this to try it out, how fun.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

Before I go and reconfigure my computer or whatever, can you undo Firefox/Mozilla if you install it? What if I find that it's a problem and I don't want to use it anymore?

re: my computer keeps freezing up

Have to agree with KMF once you get used to using tabs. You'll never look back.

re: my computer keeps freezing up

Insom...yes you can easily unistall the program (but I doubt you will want to)....

re: my computer keeps freezing up

Can you still use IE if you get Firefox too?

I'm reading about the browser now and it sounds like a lot to mess with. Do you have to get all these kooky extensions and would everyone else on this computer have to use Firefox if I downloaded it for my section?

re: my computer keeps freezing up

yes you can use both browsers -- and it really is not complicated at all -- for most users the basic one will be fine and if you go to a site that needs a plug in you will be asked if you want to download (like macromedia) --

the beauty of Fiefox is that it DOES NOT include everything so it runs smoothly, quickly and efficiently....
