After it was pointed out to me on this board how annoying it is when I strive to find equity in the way people are treated, revered, etc, I have decided to no longer think that consistency should matter.

Of course it is. I never believed the "different kind of politics" bs when it was first being spouted (again, much to the chagrin of many of my peers).

My answer is the same as Phyllis's: wrong for both.

The reason I asked my question, Papa (as I'm sure you suspected when you delayed responding) is this: I'd like to think that you posted this because you, in fact, obejcted. I'd also like to think that you objected when Bush did it, but that's actually secondary for me.

Can we take a moment to record in Papa's Great Big Book the responses you're getting, since you always claim (erroneously, IMHO) that we never criticize our own?

now, now, reg, don't go geting your knickers in a twist. my generalizations of the group knob slobbing delivered to saint barry as opposed to the brutal gutting delivered to george dubya antichrist are a response often to things that predate your own involvement here. it's courageous of you to assume the mantle of the accused, but it's quite often not yours to wear.

that said, i have no problem with the troops being used for photo ops. nor do, i would wager, many of the troops. i know plenty of military personnel who have printed one of those group photos with the president and had them framed, "look, right there! it's the back of my head! no, no look under his arm."

my issue comes from the assertion that obama voters were given preferential treatment: "who voted for obama?" while that is fine at a political rally - as is excluding those who don't agree with you - it's disgusting to do so at a gathering of men and women who might die tomorrow upon orders from a man they may or may not have voted for.

i cannot recall a similar instance during the bush years, despite plenty of photo ops with the troops. but i would like to think that if such an act were undertaken, i would have found it as intolerable as i find this.

as far as the delay? i try not to answer a question with a question and generally refuse to answer those who do until mine has been answered.

Not answering a question with a question is perfectly fair, as long as it's a real question. But you didn't say "Hey, lefties, how do you feel about this?" You asked if it was wrong when Bush did it; I asked you the same question, not a different one.

Anyway, just to speak for myself and my underpants, my main point is that when I criticized Bush (and boy, did I!), it was about something that I genuinely objected to.

Okay, carry on.
