obama to use afghanistan decision in acceptance speech for nobel peace prize

in an international celebration of spin, the president will accept a nobel peace prize for his decision to expand the war in afghanistan.

granted it's a decision i agree with, but the chutzpah of accepting the nobel peace prize by defending your decision to send 30k more troops into a war zone seems, uh, curious.

it does give hope to robert mugabe who plans to unleash widespread slaughter in hopes of receiving his own peace prize next year.

like i said, q, i support his decision. i'm just reveling in the fallout as relates specifically to a "peace" prize. hell, i sometimes have to use force just to get a piece. i'm kidding, i'm kidding. i know, no means no. except when it means yes.

Well Papa, I'm all ears. What SHOULD he do- Or SHOULD HE have done- in relation the prize? Refuse it? Ignore it? Go, but call Jack Lemmon up and press it into HIS hands instead?

i would have liked to see him deliver a speech a few days after the announcement which thanked them for the honor and stress how huge an honor it was. then list off the other finalists and their accomplishments. then point out that while he has great hope that eventually his accomplishments will place him in consideration for the prize that he has much to do to be considered worthy in his own eyes of such a prize. fort his reason he must respectfully ask that they reconsider their decision and ask that he be removed for consideration at this time.

What does Orwell have to do with this and why do conservatives even try to claim him? He may have left the communists, even engaged in a series blackballs against those in the publishing world, but he literally fought with the just as radical anarchists in the Spanish Civil War.
