my sister is a dance genius. she has won numerous awards and performed on some very highly regarded stages.

i am a ****whose biggest claim to fame is providing an extremely bad impersonation of morgan freeman to a friend's short film.

i'm starting to seriously believe that it's my sister who will be the performer. i will always be the behind-the-scenes whore who wants to get out and sing my heart out but will never get the chance.

the kicker? my sister is ****ing 10.

dear god, am i an idiot for being jealous of her?

Sometimes jealousy can make you work harder. Haha.

And I think I'm the overshadowing sibling....

My sibling are 2 and 6 years old so I can't really say I understand what you're going through. Unfortunately I can see things heading in a similar direction. My 2 year old sister is already expected to dance like I did (I was about her age when I started with the same teacher). I'm sure she's also going ot have to live up to the expectations my brother has set, since he's already the "golden boy" of the family.

And i got off track.

Anyway; If you want to perform, do it! Give yourself the chance. If you want to sing, by all means pick up the microphone. There can b e more than one performer in a family.

I know exacly how you feel. My little sister is also a dancing genius and shes 11. Shes won titles and awards and crap like that. Also, my mom decided one summer that she should do theater. I was like NOOOOOOO, thats my area, not Christy's(my little sister). My mom kept rubbing it all in saying "she's so talented, I'm soo proud of her, sorry Laney(me) you cant do theater because you have other priorities"..and all that stuff. It gets you mad doesn't it? Well, since that summer, I've decided to fight even harder and make it happen. Its not my sister's fault either, she really is very talented..but it's more my parents saying that I shouldnt be doing it. But I'm working my a* off and auditioning for everything possible. If you want it bad enough, go for it..dont let your sister or parents pull you away from it.

Thats a valuable lesson I'm learning and I'm proving to myself and everyone else that there is more than one performer in my family.

Might I offer one last word. Some advice I wish I heard. If spending makes you feel alive. DIE before the bills arrive!!

i have 4 brothers and none of them are really into theater except for my 8 year old brother who can play the drums, guitar, sing, dance AND he has perfect pitch (i have perfect pitch too, but i didn't have it when i was 8!!).... -.-

my other brothers overshadow me in the 'academics' side of things. i guess my youngest brother is just trying to be better than me cause my mom would always have her attention on ME then BAMM! he enters the world of musical theater and he gets all the attention.

psh. younger brothers..

why yes, i do frequently burst out in song. i have a very serious medical condition called musical tourettes. :)

My brother has also won numerous awards and my parents favor him, so he can do whatever he wants. He drives me to tears because he's such an ass**** to me and my parents let it. He can do no wrong.
And what have I done? Nothing. All I've got to show is callbacks for the lead in the spring musical, but then end up getting a back-up singer.
But I just hate my family. Mainly my brother though. I feel ya.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim
