Quote: "Every woman in America knows what Barack Obama did to Hillary Clinton"
Excerpt:
But Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who is locked in a tough race of her own, says ...“I have never seen such excitement in the Republican Party as we’re seeing in response to Sarah Palin,” Collins said. “I’ve had a lot of Democrats and independent women in Maine who say they’re happy to see a woman on the ticket. Many of them saw an Obama-Clinton ticket as unbeatable. ... That is significant and remarkable.”
Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Assistant Director Peter A. Brown said the Obama campaign is fooling itself if it discounts the importance of the problem. “This isn’t about Hillary; it’s about Obama’s problem with white women voters,” he said. “Hillary won about 10 million votes from women voters in the Democratic primaries — there are 52 million women voting in the general election.”

I hate McCain and Palin but
McCain picked Palin as his VP and got a huge bump in the polls and the rabid support of the Christian Taliban.
Obama picked Biden and got ........... NOTHING.

I don't see why Papa, McCain is completely senile and Palin is a lunatic. They will destroy the country.

Pretty much - but they'll finish the job.
I know any civil libirties I've gained recently (few though they may be) will be gone if they get to choose any Supreme Court judges.

Posted: 9/10/08 at 8:54ammarc, seriously. he's going to have barely enough to maintain a filibuster in the senate, less in the house. a strong democratic majority congress will have no incentive to help him at all and will oppose with their numbers anything he tries to do. it'll be four years of grid-lock while the country tries to decide - really this time - what the new direction should be and gets ready for a female president in 2012.

Except the Supreme Court - which if he picks any will knock me back from being a second rate citizen to a fourth rate citizen.
And, when McCain dies in office, which is more than possible, I don't want this right wing, pentecostal lunatic representing this country. I can't even imagine what problems this bible thumping, trailer trash, ignorant bi^ch might create.
#12Obama, go to the Clintons for help NOW and stop being so proud!

I agree Hillary should have been on the ticket. McCain would NOT have picked a woman. It was a political move and if we lose in November I am sure some will still find a way to blame Hillary for our loss and not oabama. Whats done is done. No point in bickering and looking back with regrets on who Obama SHOULD have picked. When he picked Biden the first thing I said was the odds are no longer in our favor and they are not. Still, Biden would make a better VP than Palin.
What Obama needs to do is turn to the Clintons for help. He can not be arrogant and proud and assume they will come to come him. He needs to turn to them and be humble for once and ask for their help. Its not too late to turn this around.
Hillary would not have taken any of this crap or smears. Bill wouldn't either.Obama's lack of experience is shinning through and he is making Palin look like an old pro.I think the DNC may be seeing for the first time that they were wrong getting behind JUST Obama and not Hillary. They did not listen to her voters at all during the primaries and Hillary in her critics eyes redeemed herself at the convention.
I fear Obama will just do what he is doing now until November and we lose by a lot.Obama had BETTER do something fast. He set the bar high when I crossed over from supporting Hillary to Obama. Hillary would be fighting for her life in all of this and love her or hate her, we would be way ahead in the polls. If Obama does not act fast then we do not deserve to win. Hopefully the DNC will have learned and Hillary will run and this time the Democrats will stand behind her in 2012.]
OBAMA, I AM LOSING MY PATIENCE! DO SOMETHING!!!

"Every woman in America knows what Barack Obama did to Hillary Clinton"
That's a silly statement and I hope that women don't actually think like that.
The POTUS nomation should have gone to Hillary. But it didn't. But she would have been wrong as Vice President. She would have overshadowed him and there would have been a lot of friction between them.
Could Obama or Hillary have picked someone other than a white man to be the VP nominee? It's hard to say. Are people ready for that much change?

"What Obama needs to do is turn to the Clintons for help."
Romantico, I don't quite think it's that simple. There are different factions in the Democratic Party. There is the Kennedy faction and the Clinton faction. Obama aligned with the Kennedys (Caroline was on his VP team). The different factions are struggling for power. For Obama to turn to the Clintons for help would mean turning his back on the Kennedy faction.

marc, can he approve supreme court nominees himself? can she? you're going to be a whisper from a filibuster proof majority in the senate and you're acting like whoever he picks will get in. you're also assuming that he will nominate zealots which i doubt. don't forget his comments about alito.
as far as the pageant princess goes, will she be a worse disaster on the national stage than bush? how is that even thinkable?

You know what could have sealed it? If Obama could FLY! He could zip all over and do 30 or 40 appearances a day! Or if Nancy Pelosi could shoot laser beams out of her eyes! THAT would show them. What about if Harry Reid could turn things to stone by thinking hard- how about that? Let's talk about those ideas because they are 100% more valid options than Hillary Clinton.

Beyond the Supreme Court, the issue is how the federal appointments are staffed. Under Bush, unqualified individuals who had the same religious and political beliefs as Bush and his staff were put into positions that normally were nonpartisan, and in the past, were filled based upon qualifications and not ideology. Think the justice department, the EPA, the FDA etc.
They do as much damage (if not more) to our infrastructure. I have no idea how McCain would appoint. I fear that Palin would follow the Bush model (should anything happen to McCain during his first term).
And papa, you cannot really condone the ads they are running, can you? I know that Obama should have expected it, but they are still disgusting. Especially the last one that infers he is some sort of pedophile.
If McCain does win, I may just turn to prayer - praying that he survives his entire first term and praying that no supreme court justice dies while he is in office.
And, there is always a chance that he is completely fooling the Christian right, and going to do a big FU if elected, put Palin in a little corner and let her promote her abstinence program, but I doubt it.
Edit: And, I am not sure adding Clinton to the ticket would have solved the problem. They probably would not have gone with Palin, but we cannot be sure who his pick would be. There is still time to reverse this, and the media is starting to question McCain, so I still think this election is Obama's to lose. He just needs to get back on message and go after McCain, and link him to Bush. Let Obama's female surrogates go after Palin.

So what's the solution, Joe?
How does Obama combat Palin and the negative ads?
He can't go on with his current strategy.

Actually PJ, I think an ad ala the Wizard of Oz, with the
"Great and Powerful McCain and Palin" being controlled by that man behind the curtain ... Karl Rove.
If I could do a viral video, I would. People have to realize that all of this is Rove 2.0, and they have to connect this to Bush and the country's current problems.

Posted: 9/10/08 at 10:54amTruth is, Palin's meteoric rise has already slowed. We're only in day 12 of her revelation. She's under constant scrutiny, and though I think it's naive to think she'll blow either the Charlie Gibson interview or even the debate, the moment will come when she will have to abandon her reconstituted and recycled convention speech and answer questions outside her comfort zone. Yes, she can be prepped and drilled on talking points, but a lifetime of indifference to foreign policy cannot be compensated for overnight. We are very fickle and shallow culture -- today I heard everyone MUST have her damned glasses (so much for Obama the celeb, Mr. McCain) -- but we love to abandon those we revere. It ain't over folks. The hail mary pass has not landed.
