There's a big bird over my house
Go away, go away
There's a big bird flying over my house
And it looks like it's decided to stay
It's making a mistake...a big mistake
Big bird / Big bird / Big bird / Big bird
I pinch myself
I think I'm not dreamng
I'm not
I hear screaming!
C'mon! Get it out now
Wants to use me to feather its nest
Now it wants the rest
It's swooping from the branch
It's swooping from the sky
Spreadin' its feathers
Cuttin' out-flying
There's a big gray bird flying over my house
What do you think I am?
I'm not a louse!
There's a big bird over my house
There's a big, big, big bird
Over my house
What's it doing?
What does it want?
I pinch myself
I think I'm dreaming
I'm not...I hear screaming!
C'mon! Let it out now
Wants to use me to feather its nest
Now it wants the rest
It's swooping from the branch
Swooping from the sky
Spreadin' its feathers
Cuttin' out-flying
There's a big gray bird circling
'Round my house
Circling 'round and 'round
Circling 'round my house
There's a big bird over my house
There's a big, big, big bird
Over my house

"A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway
I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
Love this song! I want the man I marry to sing this to me.

I may not be perfect, I may not be smart, but I know what I have with you. You are my rescue, my port in a storm, the reason that I've made it through. You're the one who's been there through the darkness and the light; the only one who has ever made me feel right. Now that I've held you, this much I know: that when you've found love that survives you've gotta take it, protect it, don't let it go and hold it as tight as you can.
You were the first one and you'll be the last, forget all the ones inbetween. There will be others, you can be sure! But you know how little they'll mean. I intend to love you till the skies run out of rain. Your love is all that can take away my pain. Stay here beside me, I need you so and for all the rest of our lives I'm gonna take you, protect you, won't let you go... I'll hold you as near, hold you as close, hold you as dear and not let go. I'll hold you as tight as I can.
(I'm pretty sure those are right... I'm going off the top of my head here)
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...

Let me fall
Let me climb
There's a moment when fear
And dreams must collide
Someone I am
Is waiting for courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me
So let me fall
If I must fall
I won't heed your warnings
I won't hear them
Let me fall
If I fall
Though the phoenix may
Or may not rise
I will dance so freely
Holding on to no one
You can hold me only
If you too will fall
Away from all these
Useless fears and chains
Someone I am
Is waiting for my courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me
So let me fall
If I must fall
I won't heed your warnings
I won't hear
Let me fall
If I fall
There's no reason
To miss this one chance
This perfect moment
Just let me fall
"Someday I'm going to have a baby and I'm gonna name her L'il Mimi Marquez and I and will sing to her every day and when she's a toddler I will say "L'il Mimi Marquez, clad only in a bubble diaper, will perform her famous play pen handcuff dance to the sounds of breast milk being pumped!" ~Kringas

Fifty Percent
From: BALLROOM
Music by Billy Goldenberg
Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman
I don't iron his shirts
I don't sew on his buttons
I don't know all the jokes he tells or the songs he hums
Though I may hold him all through the night
He may not be here when the morning comes
I don't pick out his ties
Or expect his tomorrows
But I feel when he's in my arms, he's where he wants to be
We have no memories bittersweet with time
And I doubt if he'll spend New Year's Eve with me
I don't share his name
I don't wear his ring
There's no piece of paper saying that he's mine
But he says he loves me and I believe it's true
Doesn't that make someone belong to you?
So I don't share his name
So I don't wear his ring
So there's no piece of paper saying that he's mine
So we don't have the memories
I've had enough memories
I've washed enough mornings
I've dried enough evenings
I've had enough birthdays to know what I want
Life is anyone's guess
It's a constant surprise
Though you don't plan to fall in love
When you fall...you fall
I'd rather have fifty percent of him
Or any percent of him
Than all of anybody else at all

Wow! Rose_MacShane, I love that song (I'll Tell Me Ma)! I never realized other humans actually knew it (my dad sort of raised me on the Clancy Brothers)...
Anyway, GETTING MARRIED TODAY
(Company (c) Stephen Sondheim)
CHOIR GIRL
Bless this day
Pinnacle of life
Husband joined to wife
The heart leaps up to behold
This golden day
PAUL
Today is for Amy
Amy, I give you the rest of my life
To cherish and to keep you
To honor you forever
Today is for Amy
My happily soon-to-be wife
AMY
Pardon me, is everybody there?
Because if everybody's there,
I wanna thank you all for coming to the wedding.
I'd appreciate your going even more.
I mean, you must have lots of better things to do-
And not a word of this to Paul.
Remember Paul?
You know, the man I'm gonna marry, but I'm not
Because I wouldn't ruin anyone as wonderful is he is.
And I thank you all for the gifts and the flowers.
Thank you all, now it's back to the showers.
Don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today.
CHOIR GIRL
Bless this day
Tragedy of life
Husband yoked to wife
The heart sinks down
And feels dead
This dreadful day
AMY
Listen, everybody, look.
I don't know what you're waiting for.
A wedding- what's a wedding?
It's a prehistoric ritual
Where everybody promises fidelity forever-
Which is maybe the most horrifying word I ever heard of,
Which is followed by a honeymoon,
Where suddenly he'll realize
He's saddled with a nut,
And wanna kill me- which he should!
So, listen, thanks a bunch, but I'm not getting married.
Go have lunch, 'cause I'm not getting married.
You've been grand, but I'm not getting married.
Don't just stand there! I'm not getting married.
And don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today.
Go, can't you go?
Why is no-
-body listening?
Goodbye! Go and cry
At another person's wake.
If you're quick,
For a kick,
You could pick
Up a christening.
But please,
On my knees,
There's a human life at stake!
Listen, everybody, I'm afraid you didn't hear.
Or do you wanna see a crazy lady fall apart
In front of you?
It isn't only Paul
Who may be ruining his life.
You know, we'll both of us be losing our identities.
I telephoned my analyst about it
And he said to see him Monday,
But by Monday, I'll be floating in the Hudson
With the other garbage.
I'm not well, so I'm not getting married.
You've been swell, but I'm not getting married.
Clear the hall, 'cause I'm not getting married.
Thank you all, but I'm not getting married.
And don't tell Paul,
But I'm not getting married today.
CHOIR GIRL
Bless this bride
Totally insane
Slipping down the drain
And bless this day
In our hearts
As it starts
To rain
PAUL (countermelody)
Today is for Amy
Amy, I give you
The rest of my life
To cherish and to keep you
To honor you forever
Today is for Amy,
My happily
Soon-to-be wife
My adorable wife
AMY (countermelody)
Go, can't you go?
Look, you know I adore you all
But why
Watch me die
Like Eliza on the ice?
Look, perhaps
I'll collapse
In the apse,
Right before you all,
So take
Back the cake
Burn the shoes and boil the rice.
Look, I didn't wanna have to
Tell you, but I may be coming
Down with Hepatitis,
And I think I'm gonna faint.
So, if you wanna see me faint,
I'll do it happily,
But wouldn't it be funnier
To go and watch a funeral?
So, thank you for the 27 dinner plates,
And 37 butter knives,
And 47 paper-weights,
And 57 candleholders.
PAUL
One more thing...
AMY
I am not getting married!
CHORUS
Amen.
PAUL
Softly said...
AMY
But I'm not getting married!
CHORUS
Amen.
PAUL
With this ring...
AMY
Still, I'm not getting married!
CHORUS
Amen.
PAUL
I thee wed.
AMY
See, I'm not getting married!
CHORUS
Amen
PAUL/AMY
Let us pray/Let us pray
And we are getting married/That we're not getting married
PAUL & AMY/CHORUS
Today!/Amen!

Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little,
cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more
Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little,

Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little,

Professor, her kind of woman doesn't belong on any committee.
Of course, I shouldn't tell you this but she advocates dirty books.
Dirty books?!
Chaucer
Rabelais
Balzac!
And the worst thing
Of course, I shouldn't tell you this but-
I'll tell.
The man lived on my street, let me tell.
Stop! I'll tell.
She made brazen overtures to a man who never
had a friend in this town till she came here.
Oh, yes
That woman made brazen overtures
With a gild-edge guarantee
She had a golden glint in her eye
And a silver voice with a counterfeit ring
Just melt her down and you'll reveal
A lump of lead as cold as steel
Here, where a woman's heart should be!
He left River City the Library building
But he left all the books to her
Chaucer
Rabelais
Bal-zac!
Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little,
cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more
Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little,
cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more
Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little,
Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep
Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep
Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep
Pick a little, talk a little, cheep!

I Remember
From: EVENING PRIMROSE
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
I remember sky --
It was blue as ink.
Or at least I think
I remember sky
I remember snow --
Soft as feathers
Sharp as thumbtacks
Coming down like lint
And it made you squint
When the wind would blow
And ice, like vinyl on the streets,
Cold as silver, white as sheets,
Rain like strings
And changing things
Like leaves.
I remember leaves --
Green as spearmint, crisp as paper
I remember trees --
Bare as coat racks
Spread like broken umbrellas.
And parks and bridges, ponds and zoos,
Ruddy faces, muddy shoes.
Light and noise
And bees and boys
And days.
I remember days --
Or at least, I try.
But as years go by
They're a sort of haze.
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky.
And at times, I think
I would gladly die
For a day
Of sky.
This lyric posting really becomes addictive!

NO ONE IS ALONE (the solo version, because I don't know the lyrics to the version that's actually in the show)
(Into the Woods (c) Stephen Sondheim)
No one here to guide you.
Now, you're on your own.
Only me beside you,
Still, you're not alone.
No one is alone.
Believe me- no one is alone.
Sometimes, people leave you
Halfway through the wood.
Others may deceive you.
You decide what's good.
You decide alone,
But no one is alone.
Truly, no one is alone.
People make mistakes.
Fathers, mothers-
People make mistakes.
Holding to their own,
Thinking they're alone.
Honor their mistakes,
Everybody makes,
On another's terrible mistakes.
Witches can be right.
Giants can be good.
You decide what's right,
You decide what's good.
Just remember...
Someone is on your side.
Someone else is not.
While you're seeing your side,
Maybe you forgot.
They are not alone.
No one is alone.
Hard to see the light, now.
Just don't let it go.
Things will come out right now.
We can make it so.
Someone is on your side.
No one is alone.
This IS addictive... and an effective way to procrastinate.

You Must Meet My Wife
From: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
[FREDRIK]
She lightens my sadness,
She livens my days,
She bursts with a kind of madness
My well-ordered ways.
My happiest mistake, the ache of my life:
You must meet my wife.
She bubbles with pleasure,
She glows with surprise,
Disrupts my accustomed leisure
And ruffles my ties.
I don't know even now quite how it began.
You must meet my wife, my Anne.
One thousand whims to which I give in,
Since her smallest tear turns me ashen.
I never dreamed that I could live in
So completely demented, contented a fashion.
So sunlike, so winning,
So unlike a wife.
I do think that I'm beginning
To show signs of life.
Don't ask me how at my age one still can grow--
If you met my wife, you'd know.
[DESIREE (speaking):]
Dear Fredrik,
I'm just longing to meet her.
Sometime.
[FREDRIK]
She sparkles...
[DESIREE]
How pleasant.
[FREDRIK]
She twinkles...
[DESIREE]
How nice.
[FREDRIK]
Her youth is a sort of present--
[DESIREE]
Whatever the price.
[FREDRIK]
The incandescent--what?--the--
[DESIREE (offering a cigarette):]
Light?
[FREDRIK]
--of my life.
You must meet my wife.
[DESIREE]
Yes, I must. I really must.
Now--
[FREDRIK]
She flutters.
[DESIREE]
How charming.
[FREDRIK]
She twitters.
[DESIREE]
My word!
[FREDRIK]
She floats.
[DESIREE]
Isn't that alarming?
What is she, a bird?
[FREDRIK]
She makes me feel I'm--what?--
[DESIREE]
A very old man.
[FREDRIK]
Yes--no!
[DESIREE]
No?
[FREDRIK]
But--
[DESIREE]
I must meet your Gertrude.
[FREDRIK]
My Anne.
[DESIREE]
Sorry--Anne.
[FREDRIK]
She loves my voice, my walk, my mustache,
The cigar, in fact, that I'm smoking.
She'll watch me puff until it's just ash,
Then she'll save the cigar butt.
[DESIREE]
Bizarre, but
You're joking.
[FREDRIK]
She dotes on--
[DESIREE]
Your dimple.
[FREDRIK]
My snoring.
[DESIREE]
How dear.
[FREDRIK]
The point is, she's really simple.
[DESIREE]
Yes, that much seems clear.
[FREDRIK]
She gives me funny names--
[DESIREE]
Like?
[FREDRIK]
"Old Dry-as-Dust."
[DESIREE]
Wouldn't she just?
[FREDRIK]
You must meet my wife.
[DESIREE]
Yes, I must, yes, I must.
[FREDRIK]
A sea of whims that I submerge in,
Yet so loveable in repentance.
Unfortunately still a virgin,
But you can't force a flower--
[DESIREE]
Don't finish that sentence!
She's monstrous!
[FREDRIK]
She's frightened.
[DESIREE]
Unfeeling!
[FREDRIK]
Unversed.
She'd strike you as unenlightened--
[DESIREE]
No, I'd strike her first.
[FREDRIK]
Her reticence, her apprehension--
[DESIREE]
Her crust!
[FREDRIK]
No!
[DESIREE]
Yes!
[FREDRIK]
No!
[DESIREE]
Fredrik!
[FREDRIK]
You must meet my wife.
[DESIREE]
Let me get my hat and my knife!
[FREDRIK]
What was that?
[DESIREE]
I must meet your wife.
[FREDRIK AND DESIREE]
Yes, you must.
Yes, I must.

And that would be bad because...?
THE LADIES WHO LUNCH
(Company (c) Stephen Sondheim)
Here's to the ladies who lunch-
Everybody laugh.
Lounging in their caftans,
And planning a brunch
On their own behalf.
Off to the gym,
Then to a fitting,
Claiming they're fat.
And looking grim,
'Cause they've been sitting,
Chosing a hat.
Does anyone still wear a hat?
I'll drink to that.
And here's to the girls who stay smart-
Aren't they a gas?
Rushing to their classes in optical art,
Wishing it would pass.
Another long, exhausting day.
Another thousand dollars.
A matinee, a Pinter play.
Perhaps a piece of Mahler's.
I'll drink to that!
And one for Mahler.
Here's to the girls who play wife-
Aren't they too much?
Keeping house, but clutching a copy of Life
(Just to keep in touch).
The ones who follow the rules,
And meet themselves at the schools.
To busy to know that they're fools.
Aren't they a gem?
I'll drink to them!
Let's all drink to them.
And here's to the girls who just watch-
Aren't they the best?
When they get depressed,
It's a bottle of scotch,
Plus a little jest.
Another chance to disapprove,
Another brilliant zinger.
Another reason not to move,
Another vodka stinger.
I'll drink to that!
So, here's to the girls on the go.
Everybody tries.
Look into their eyes,
And you'll see what they know:
Everybody dies.
A toast to that invincible bunch!
The dinosaurs surviving the crunch!
Let's hear it for the ladies who lunch-
Everybody rise!
Rise!
Rise!
Rise!
Rise!
Rise!
Rise!
Let me know if I got the number of "rise"s at the end wrong...

Never knew I could feel like this,
Like I've never seen the sky before.
I want to vanish inside your kiss,
Every day I love you more and more.
Listen to my heart can you hear it sing,
Telling me to give you everything.
Seasons may change, winter to spring,
But I'll love you, until the end of time.
Come what may, Come what may,
I will love you, until my dying day.
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place.
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste:
It all revolves around you.
And there's no mountain too high, No river to wide.
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side.
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide,
But I'll love you until the end of time.
Come what may, Come what may,
I will love you, until my dying day.

I got pictures of naked ladies
Lying on their beds
I whiff that smell and sweet convulsion
Starts a-Swelling inside my head
I'm making artificial lovers for free
I start to howl I'm in heat
I moan and growl and the hunt drives me crazy
I f*** like a Beast
I come round, round i come feel your love
Tie you down, down i come steal your love
I come round, round i come feel your love
Tie you down, down i come steal your love
I'm on the prowl and i watch you closely
I lie waiting for you
I'm the wolf with the sheepsskins clothing
I lick my chops and your tasting good
I do whatever i want to, to ya
I'll nail your ass to the sheets
A pelvic thrust and the sweat starts to sting ya
I f*** like a beast
I come round, round i come feel your love
Tie you down, down i come steal your love
I come round, round i come feel your love
Tie you down, down i come steal your love
Come ride, savage seduction
Ride, ride, ride

Well, I don't believe in God
But she talks to me all the time
And I banish my mother
But she holds me when I cry
And I've been unfaithful, but with me he'll spend the rest of his life
And I have been forgiven by all whom I've betrayed and loved
And I have everything I want
Is it ever enough?
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be saved
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I'm...still
Well I don't believe I'm beautiful
But at least I have my sister's smile
And I resist the muses, but they sing to me in exile
And destiny is not deafening, but it hushed me like a child
And every time I feel as though I'm closer to the eye
The storm winds blow, I run inside, and though I feel revived
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be saved
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I'm...still
The insatiable peace
My quest for true serenity
No matter how hard the rain, the thirst is never ending
No matter how many friends or angels been sent down to take me away
They can't make it okay
They can't make it okay

Elizabeth_DeBris: Yay! You know, I saw Tommy Makem at the Colorado Irish Festival a few years ago, and he did "I'll Tell Me Ma." I was very happy. :)
Every time I hear this song, every time I watch "Toy Story 2," this song just destroys me.
"When She Loved Me"
When somebody loved me everything was beautiful
Every hour we spent together lives within my heart
And when she was sad, I was there to dry her tears
And when she was happy, so was I
When she loved me
Through the summer and the fall
We had each other, that was all
Just she and I together, like it was meant to be
And when she was lonely, I was there to comfort her
And I knew that she loved me
So the years went by, I stayed the same
And she began to drift away, I was left alone
Still I waited for the day when she’d say
"I will always love you."
Lonely and forgotten, never thought she’d look my way
She smiled at me and held me, just like she used to do
Like she loved me, when she loved me
When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful
Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart
When she loved me.

it shouldn't bother you
your choice is who you choose to be
and if your causin' no harm
then you're alright with me.

From a phone booth in Vegas
Jesse calls at five a.m.
To tell me how she's tired of all of them
She says, "Baby, I've been thinking
About a trailer by the sea
We could go to Mexico; You, the cat and Me
We'll drink tequila and look for seashells
Now doesn't that sound sweet"
Oh Jesse you always do this every time
I get back on my feet
Jesse paint your pictures
About how it's gonna be
By now I should know better
Your dreams are never free
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me
She asked me how the cat's been
I say "Moses, he's just fine"
But he used to think about you, all the time
We finally took your pictures down off the wall
Jesse, how do you always know just when to call
She says "Get your things together,
Bring Moses and drive real fast"
And I listened to her promise
I swear to God this time it's gonna last
Jesse paint your pictures
About how it's gonna be
By now I should know better
Your dreams are never free
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me
I'll love you in the sunshine
Lay you down in the warm, white sand
And who knows maybe this time
Things will turn out just the way you planned
Jesse paint your pictures
About how it's gonna be
By now I should know better
Your dreams are never free
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me
Oh Jesse you can always sell any dream to me

"Brick" by Ben Folds Five:
6 am day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping and I am numb
Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They're not home to find us out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I'm feeling more alone
Than I ever have before
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can't you see?
It's not me you're dying for
Now she's feeling more alone
Than she ever has before
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me, "Son, it's time
To tell the truth"
And she broke down
And I broke down
'Cause I was tired of lying
Driving back to her apartment
For the moment we're alone
She's alone
And I'm alone
Now I know it
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly...
...boy, I never realized I'm drawn to so many depressing songs...
