Why was Tom getting married in the Catholic Church anyway? Does his cult allow that?
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' romantic Italian castle wedding is in jeopardy after the local priest refused to marry them.
The Hollywood couple allegedly have their heart set on tying the knot at Bracciano's Castello Odescalchi. The medieval castle, located on the shores of Lake Bracciano, near Rome, is considered to be one of Europe's finest.
But the Catholic priest with jurisdiction over the dreamy venue insists his parish won't marry the stars because Cruise is twice-divorced.
Mayor Patrizia Riccioni has ruled out a civil service because the pair have not provided the official documentation needed.
Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini says, "Cruise is divorced.
"Even if the actor were not divorced, another fundamental requirement to validate the rite would be missing: the authorization of the parish."
Mayor Riccioni adds, "I don't think it will be legal. On an Italian level, there are papers and documents that we certainly don't have (for a wedding)."
Cruise and Holmes are staying tight-lipped about their wedding plans, confirming only the big day will take place in Italy next weekend.
Sorry you sinner -
If Cruise's name was Kennedy, there would be no problem

Um... the Kennedy's ARE Catholic.
Money talks & B.S. walks
Money , generously spread around, can do wonders. Kennedy, staunch defender of womens rights, is one of the biggest serial abusers of women while he has been a Senator . Had a GOP senator did half of what he has done his head would be on a pole now . Can you spell hypocrisy boys & girls?. People in Mass seem to think he is a god

Way to stay on topic old timer. Take another mood elevator and get back to us later.
Oh I get it . All GOP rants are allowed but DEMS are off limits. You can critize GOP politicians but democrats can be child molesters & nothing can be said. Even this old timer gets it. I notice the comments were never addressed just the messenger told to shut up. Why am I not surprised. Standard DEM M.O.
No intention of getting into a pissing contest. See you around the campus
I can spell "hypocrisy".
Well, after Katie left the Catholic Church for Scientology, I am kind of shocked they thought they would be welcome.

They aren't meeting the basic qualifications to be married in a Catholic Church. The Monsignor isn't saying that they can't get married...he's just saying that according to the Rites and Doctrines of his Church, the wedding can not be performed. That stance would be taken by clergy of many different faiths. They have standards that they wish to uphold. I don't see how former Catholics like Tom and Katie would think they could waltz back and be considered in good standing without going through the same channels as anyone else. Isn't Confession/Sacrament of Reconciliation required for a returnee who wishes to receive communion and receive a Sacrament like marriage?
Doesn't Scientology have a wedding ceremony?

If I recall correctly, Cruise was Catholic before he converted to Scientology.
Also, the Catholic Church insists that marriage is a sacrament and that the ceremony must take place in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament. I guess there's a chapel in this castle, but it hasn't been mentioned in the press releases. Catholic marriages don't take place on beaches or in tree forts.

"it wont be recognized; not by the Catholic Church!!!"

Anything that makes things more difficult for Bats**t McCouch-jumper is all right by me.

oh he should have picked Chillon....they'd have given him no problem
AND...why IS he wanting a catholic wedding?????
Here's a quote from Katie:
"What I like about it [scientology] is that, you know, I was raised Catholic, and you can be a Catholic and a Scientologist, Jewish and a Scientologist."
I don't know much about it, but supposedly scientology isn't technically a religion and can be practiced along with, say, Catholocism. I'm guessing Katie's the one who wants a Catholic wedding and that she still holds on to her Catholic roots.
ETA: never mind, I'm not so sure about that. They didn't have Suri baptized and Tom said that they're "just scientologists," not Catholics as well. So I'm wrong. Now it does seem really strange that they'd want to get married in a Catholic church.

Katie is so very ignorant. I can't for the life of me understand why is with this moron to begin with.
I think it's to pacify her family...
Won't Tom need to collect a couple of annulments first?
YOU CANNOT BE CATHOLIC AND A SCIENTOLOGIST!!!
That goes directly against principles in Catholicism. Just because the Scientologists say you can, doesn't make it true.
I still don't understand why they WANT to get married in the Catholic Church. Can't they get some Scientologist leader to perform some sort of ceremony?

FF - I understand that they were trying to get a scientology leader to perform the ceremony, but the nearest one is three galaxy's and two light years away. They are afraid the spaceship will not get here in a weeks time.
Ha. This all reminds me of the Andy Dick wedding planner skit. You should all check it out on thesitethatmustnotbenamed.

Wow. They even have The Pope bamboozled.
It ain't gonna be a real wedding. It's alllll for show. Just like that freak of a baby they have. That's why they're all but sending invitations to the press about it. He wants publicity and the fake wedding is the way to do it.
I hear gays can get married in South Africa...maybe he should go there.
They don't care that he's gay, though, right?
ETA: Damn you to hell, doodle!!!
You can't annul a marriage that has been consummated...lucky Tom. Or should I say lucky Mimi and Nicole?
And Katie is marrying him because he's the biggest movie star in the world--she grew up with his posters on her wall--why wouldn't she want to marry him? Her career is only helped by this "union."
Yes you can, lil. People with children get marriages annulled. I've seen it. Annulment is a farce.
