Ahh, well wonderful news! I plan on seeing Judy in August. I am dying to hear more about her from you. How was the experience overall taking into account the audience and ensemble?
It is good that you are back again to be a valued correspondant of Sweeney Todd Are you going to the BWW picnic next month?

OH, I anxiously await your nice pm for tomorrow, I plan on holding out to see her develop into the role too.
Perhaps a week before she leaves I will go see by that time, I love the screwups though. I remember the days seeing Patti drop some lyrics and although you feel awkward for them, that is the fun of the theater. Not many people seemed to catch it, but it was slightly amusing for the short while when people like us can pick up the small mistakes.
Enjoy some good sleep while you can, my sleep hours are so messed up: 4am-1pm.
I'm going to take advantage of the discount code, and try to get good seats.
That's what I did. And welcome back! I'm glad your vacation was lovely.

Although it gives him more chances now, I am still really pissed. I am actually a lot more upset than I thought I would be hearing this. I guess cause just last night I was talking about how we hoped we wouldn't have to hear the day it would close for a long time and well, here it is today. Really saddened

To lighten the mood, I bring you South Park: Sweeney Todd style.
The silver lining is that this will allow him more time to focus on taking his solo music somewhere; getting a record deal and all that is a sh*tload of work.
LOL, gav. Those are adorable!
That's very true, Em.
Haha! Nice gav.

Three things to say:
1) Em, I agree with your sentiments on Mano working on his solo music - definitely a silver lining to the situation!
2) As the others have said - Gav, those little South Park characters are so cute!
3) Guess who's made plans to see Sweeney late in August...
Love your av Zyla.
I'd love to see Mano and Raul play brothers.
Sad...but with every end comes a new beginning. Broadway won't be without any of the Sweeney cast for long.
True and I hope that Woody Allen's people got him to the show to see Lauren.

I think that a lot of people who post here would like (or at least find it amusing) to see Raul and Mano play brothers.
(By the way, Glebb, thank you for the compliment on my avatar. Martha Graham is one of my idols.)
Liz, I hope your statement proves correct. Fingers crossed for all of them!
I'm bumping this in anticipation of seeing Sweeney for the last time tomorrow. Plus, there is the fact that there hasn't been a post in...6ish days.
*is excited*
Every single time I've gone to see it, I've gotten this nervous/excited energy in me because I know how great it's going to be and I can't wait.

Thanks! I'm sure I will!

I'm very excited about seeing Judy. The "phan" in me can't wait. Would I ever get the chance to see the original Broadway Carlotta on stage again? ^^
So, before I go to get ready, I leave a picture (well, half a picture) from the first time I saw Sweeney Todd.
I like that coat, too!!
I'm typing up a review of sorts, so I'll have that shortly.
Okay, just bear with me on this.
First off, before anything else, they were sold out of programs. That was the first thing I asked when I got inside.
Now standing outside the theatre at 1:30 while knowing this would be my last time, I knew that my emotions would be heightened. I could barely even think of not being able to see my favorite show – and favorite production again. I couldn’t even fathom not being able to walk down Broadway and look down 49th to see my favorite marquee down the street. I sat down in my seat, Left Orchestra, A1, and was absolutely delighted of sitting so close. As the announcer made the announcement, the pounding of my heart began – a familiar feeling that had always occurred right before Sweeney was about to start. I could hear, see, and feel my heart pounding in my chest and I felt this nervous/excited feeling again wash over me. The lights faded off, and it began.
There are honestly no words to describe how magnificent this show is. To me, theatre doesn’t get any better than this. Sitting so close to the stage, with no one in front of me, made the already intense feeling of the show become even more prominent.
I had notice things that I had never seen in the other times I had seen the show. Like I told Diana, I noticed that she and Lauren were both wearing these simple, silver lockets around their neck. Or as I told Donna, I never noticed the quite large silver buckle that she wears. She explained how John [Doyle] has her wear it because it was a symbol of who she (The Doctor) was (of her…status). Doctors would wear it and when someone would walk by them in the hall, they would know that the person wearing the buckle was a doctor. She said that no one usually sees it because the accordion covers it. (“And I can let my stomach go without anyone seeing!”). She also said how there are stickers on the accordion – the shiny accordion, as I told her.
You all know how I feel about this cast; to me, they are absolute perfection and being able to see the small twitches or glances that add to their characters very up close made me appreciate their performances even more.
So, instead of blabbing on about the regular cast and how amazing they were (in the show and at the stage door), I’ll give some review notes about Judy Kaye.
As many have said, she has a totally different take than Patti. While it may be different, it is wonderful (That seems to be the ongoing theme of this revival. ;-D). For one, she has terrific enunciation and she plays Mrs. Lovett in a more…maternal way. I really enjoyed watching her and she has a wonderful (I just used wonderful twice, didn’t I?) voice. I didn’t get anything from her performance that reminded me of Angela Landsbury, even though people have claimed that her performance was too much like it.
I laughed, I cried, I just felt true emotion – which is much more than I had felt at any other show before.
As I predicted, I was a wreck. I even started to get teary-eyed during “Pretty Women”! Basically, from “Not While I’m Around” through the final “Ballad of Sweeney Todd”, I was in, well, tears – both from the emotional impact the show was having on me, and the fact that I would never see it again. I must have been a site to see. I can honestly say that I believe I will never experience another show or cast that is so magnificent; as I have said, this is theatre. This is what theatre is supposed to be.
