Klea Blackhurst is a really feminine lesbian currently in a great off-broadway show!
I also know of some well known bway actresses who would fall into the category of "hasbians". I'm sure there are many out there that we don't know about. Come on, theatre people are extremely liberal. I'm sure about 90% of them have had homosexual interactions at one point, male and female alike.
thanks jerseygirl! Tipping The Velvet is such a great movie! Rachael Stirling <333
I think what I've been trying to get at, and have yet to articulate correctly, is that it seems in theatre the culture is heavily created by and revolved around gay men. While I do not doubt there being lesbian/bisexual women in theatre it is hardly a cultural reference. Whereas, say, in Women's Golf the culture is heavily dominated by the amount of lesbians in the sport. Obviously there are plenty of straight women who play golf...it's more known and acknowledged. That's a little different obviously as it is a specifically gender-bias sport but I just pulled it off the top of my head.
I agree about theatre being extremely liberal so most people have probably at least kissed someone of the same sex. But I'm talking more about people with definite preference of attraction and desire to commit to a relationship with someone of the same sex not just "wooo after party let's make out!" which is fine too
Hahah...that's a really funny thing to think about actually...who's done what with who! oo scandelous!
WOOOHOOOOO! CAST PARTY! get the straight girls drunk and watch them make out!
Oh, sorry. I had a moment.
omg I just read your signiature...because that's how much I lack attention to detail...and yay Tina Fey! That reminded me of something...I cannot remember what it's from! My brain is associating it with Tina Fey so I don't know if it's SNL or what...but it was a bunch of boys in overalls by a truck all hicked out and one kid was like "and then God killed the dinosaurs" or something...it was much wittier than that...WTF this is going to bother me.
and it's more fun when the straight girl makes out with the not-straight girl imo, lol. straight girl + straight girl reminds me of "Girls Gone Wild" videos and that's just ew.
Nah, it's better with the straight girls. You take pics and use them against them later. The bi/gay girl usually ends up with a broken heart. Damn women.
As far as lesbians in theatre, Cherry is really an inspiration. There was very little if any visibility of lesbian actresses until Cherry thanked her partner, Mary, in her Tony acceptance speech in 1995. I grew up less than an hour from the small town she is from. I have really admired her since she won the award.
oh yeah broken hearts I forget about that, because apparently I'm heartless. LOST YOUR HEART?!!?!>!?!>!>! anyway.
Yeah Cherry is very cool, I'm sad I never got to see Doubt.
