Hehe, understand the sentiment but this thread should be on the Off-Topic board. Just a future FYI.

i'm bored at work too, but my work filters out the broadway board and will only let me into the offtopic...for some reason the Broadway Board is classified as pornography...dunno why...yet the off topic board is open...*shrugs* oh well glad I can get at least a little bit of sanity in my insane day.
Have a job where I just sit and stare at the comp screen all day lol, well I do a bit more than that, but it's harder to explain. So yeah these boards and a few others keep me sane at work, when the boss isn't looking anyway

Matt McGrath (who plays Howie) and Justin Theroux (who plays Marshall). Great great movie if you haven't seen it rent it, a sweet gay romantic comedy that I watch WAY too much lol I even put it on my ipod to enjoy on the go lol

Speaking of temping...
I need a job for the summer. My hours are extremely flexible but I need to start like...now!
I don't want to stand at a cash register and check people out everyday though.
Anyone have any ideas? What temp jobs do you have?

Right now I'm assigned as an office assistant at the World Bank in DC. The temp agency I'm with pretty much only works with the Bank (and IMF etc) agencies.
There are temp agencies (such as mine) that specialize in a certain field. I'm also with one that specializes in staffing political offices--lobbyists, campaigns etc. So if there's a particular area you want to work in, you can probably find an agency that staffs those jobs.
If you're interested in non-profit/grassroots organizations and are in NYC, let me know and I can give you the name of an agency that works mostly within that area.

Posted: 5/3/06 at 3:26pmTemping is VERY unstable. I do not recommend it for a "summer job" - unless you're willing to pinch pennies and live sparsely under the assumption that the assignment might randomly end.

OR you could get a haircut, steal your boss's identity, win over Mr. Trask with your unstoppable sass, and become a real working girl!
Oh...wait...

The stability of temp employment depends on where you live. In DC, it seems to be pretty reliable. I signed up with two agencies in one day, and within 1 day both had called with assignments. I wasn't able to do either, unfortunately....but then two days later both called again, each with long-ish (3 weeks) assignments.
So although I've only been a temp for a short while, it seems like this will be fairly reliable income until I get a permanent job. But in a smaller city, it might not be reliable.

In Chicago, temping has just been ridiculous. Clients bring on temps claiming that the assignment is "indefinite" or will last "two months," but from day one it's evident that they think it will be a lot shorter but are just looking for a temp who will work as if it were a full-time, temp-to-perm job.
Unfortunately, my industry doesn't hire from out-of-state, so I'll probably have to move to New York without a job (and hopefully a lot of savings) and then temp until I can land something full-time. Here's to finding some reliable agents in NYC, and some more temp assignments here in Chicago in case the career-track job search proves difficult in NYC...

Im not a temp, but Im bored at work nonetheless.... I'm ALWAYS bored at work... and then Im torn between leaving early (because Im doing *nothing* here) and getting stuff done (and not getting paid), or staying here and being bored out of my mind and getting paid for it.
The paycheck usually wins out but I'm still bored as hell lol
