I think the best way to look at the use of vibrato is not based on the specific song, but the actor and intention to the specific phrase. It's a choice, not a requirement, that can change the way a phrase is delivered -- more emphatic, intense passages ("blooming" towards the end) often have more vibrato applied; but that's a choice, and not a hard and fast rule. But vocal vibrato markings in scores aren't a thing; it's choice to add color to the performance.

Hot take: I don't get the outrage over the (assumed) non-casting of "unknowns" from the open auditions. This is a commercial, major Off-Broadway production -- not a summer camp production. They opened auditions for everyone, which is admirable, but still no guarantee any of those seen would land a role. And who's to say that the multitudes seen were better than everyone else, professional or otherwise, that auditioned? Many productions, on and off Broadway, hold open calls -- this production ...

I strongly doubt School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play (as it is actually titled) would be considered a "new play". Its debut was in 2017, and has been produced in some 75 regional theaters.
