I strongly doubt School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play (as it is actually titled) would be considered a "new play". Its debut was in 2017, and has been produced in some 75 regional theaters.

Say what you will about the movie as a whole, but this sequence is wonderful, on many levels.

Well, he's issued an "apology"...Which reads more as "sorry I was caught"/CYA than any actual statement of contrition. Good riddance for someone so at odds with the spirit of the production.

This was perfectly captured -- this should be the gold standard for filming a theatrical production; you honor the fact it's on a stage, while still using the tools that cinema offers. This whole enterprise has been a head-scratcher for me; who thought it was a great idea to try and launch two new productions (a tour and new West End iteration), essentially, at the same time? In addition to it's original West End outting being only a semi-success, these productions were to be headed by a completely new creative team -- meaning, it's not what the semi-successful West End production was.
