Posted: 8/11/08 at 10:30amBut you don't understand! Obama is a new type of leader. So anything done before him really wasn't done until he did it.

Posted: 8/11/08 at 11:15amSorry Papa, I just posted this. Didn't see yours. Both ads are pretty lame, but I think Obama's is better. Get use to it. Petty ads like this are going to be what we see now til November.

Posted: 8/11/08 at 11:27amBad ad. Repeating the GOP's "celebrity" angle just feels uninspired and derivative. We shouldn't fear John McCain because he's a celebrity, we should fear him because no one has any idea where he stands on any issue.

What I would do is make an ad spoofing the word "maverick" which is thrown around like confetti regarding McCain since I-don't-know-when. In other words, turn the word "maverick" into something resembling "confused" or "loose cannon".

Posted: 8/11/08 at 11:40amI think they did the "Maverick" one Borstal- McCain had a commercial that showed people talking about what a Maverick he was, so they went out and got clips of all the people talking about how he USED to be outspoken and independent but now he's just a tool.

This is Obama responding tactfully. It starts with the "celebrity" line but went right where it counts the lobbyists. It's not childish at all, it's rather smart, clear and to the point. Unlike the McCain ad this is actually coherent. There was a lot of evidence McCain's ad "worked" and several on this board were saying Obama better ramp it up. The problem in the past two presidential elections (besides the lousy nominees) was the Democratic response to these buzz words and 527 labels was pathetic.
Apparently on this board unless you support Hillary Clinton after she lost the nomination you're politically damned if you do damned if you don't.

I actually don't find taking someone's weapon and turning it against them to be childish or pathetic.
That said, I don't think the "celebrity" stuff was the strongest part of the ad. But I do think that it'll go a long way toward effectively killing McCain's original ad.

The entire thing is laughable. Where is the Republican party? If this is the best McCain can do I can't imagine what the next few months will be like. Paris Hilton killed this ad with one solid punch and her family was for the man.
Bring on the debates. Nothing like a McCain unscripted.

I'm not crazy about the ad or the tactic. I hope they don't use it during the Olympics. I like the fact that Obama's ads in the Olympics so far have been positive.
I think the campaign has caved to pressure to respond in kind. They have responded rather quickly before, within a day or less, but this reponse is two weeks after McCain's.
