SPOILERS just in case for those of you who haven't read the books and only watch the movies

i haven't read the books in a while and haven't seen the movies in a while either... so i have a question

so I'm rewatching Deathly Hallows Part I... what is the significance of the mirror shard that Harry has at the beginning of the movie and why does he ask for help from it at the end... was that connected to Dobby in some way?? how did Dobby know to find him at the Malfoy's mansion??

Second *Spoiler* warning

Dumbledore's brother Aberforth had the other mirror (it was his eye that Harry kept seeing in the shard). Aberforth and Dumbledore had the same eyes, being brothers and all, and Harry thought it might somehow be Dumbledore. Aberforth was the one who sent Dobby to the Malfoy's to help Harry and everyone else.

thanks! more questions... where and when did Harry get the shard again?

also... in the movie... harry uses a spell to open the locket so that ron could destroy the horcrux... how did he know to do that? when they first got the horcrux they kept using random spells to try to destroy it... what made him open it when he finally had the sword??

Sirius gave Harry the mirror in Order of the Phoenix and it ended up getting broken in the bottom of Harry's trunk (the movie may have glossed over this, or excluded it all together, it's been a while since I've watched it).

Harry finally realized that he had to speak in Parseltongue to get the locket to open. I don't remember exactly how he came to that conclusion in the book, maybe when he thought about how he just subconsciously switched to speaking Parseltongue in response to Nagini while she was disguised as Bathilda? In both the book and the movie notice that Bathilda/Nagina never speaks in Hermione's presence, since that would immediately tip Hermione off, but Harry would never notice that the speech was in Parseltongue, since every other time he heard it he also never noticed that it was not in English, he just instinctively understood it (much like bi-lingual children will just slip in and out of their two languages when they are really young and beginning to learn to speak, sometimes even mixing their two languages within the same sentences).
