Posted: 8/26/08 at 3:01pmI can't believe that reporter would put himself in danger like that. I mean, there were tens of thug protestors swarming around him.

Posted: 8/26/08 at 3:03pmI posted elswhere that I work in Downtown Denver. On the way home, I watched the police in riot gear heading over to the protest at the City & County Building. People were arrested on Sunday also. Tear gas everywhere. The 16th street mall, the main street in downtown Denver, had protests going on yesterday also. We have free shuttle busses that had to be shut down 5 times for 30 minutes each time. There were to be no protests on the mall but we are thinking that those from Denver who already had permits were the ones protesting yesterday. I got caught in the middle of the religious group against gays. Thank goodness it ended peacefully but the cops immediately surrounded them. Since we are not as big as NYC, we don't really "absorb" all of this. So it looks like the whole city is under seige! Cops and security EVERYWHERE. I am actually leaving work early today. My office is across the street from the Westin where the Obama's are and Biden are. The Clintons 4 blocks down on the same street. Palosi and Carter are in between. I live in an area called Capitol Hill just outside of downtown (It is actually considered downtown and a 10 minute walk to where the protests were last night). My 15 minute bus ride home took an hour yesterday. So far today, the mall seems quiet as far as protesting, but from what we are seeing on the local news, some protesters are planning to get arrested and everyone is talking about the protesters who may use some slingshot contration to lob balloons filled with urine and feces (I kid you not) into crowds. Rumor has it that they may bring in that big contraption that when activated, makes your skin feel like it is burning. They can zap crowds from like 2 blocks away. Saw it on 60 minutes. But I hear that IF they bring it in, it will be if things get really bad.

Borstal,
Biff Blinky put himself in harm's way to bring you news, and all you can do is mock?
Shame, shame . . .

NGD47, a lot of people are and a lot of people are working from home. With the exception of those protests (And we expected them) things are going pretty well. It is just so crazy trying to navigate the mall. The protest areas that are set up are away from the center of the city. We had World Youth day, a few all-star games and The Summit of the Eight, but this takes the cake. A close froend of mine is right in the middle of everything and we are going up to his partner's cabin for the weekend of the 5th. I will get all the juicy details from this week! To a degree, it is exciting. But it is also a bit of a pain. (my building was issued special security passes. If you forget to bring it, you don't get up to your office) But I think we will survive it all.
