That band was one weird anamoly. I do believe they are the only band in the history of rock music to be working on an album in their original incarnation (The Move) and to sign a new and separate contract (for ELO) and to begin work on that album with the exact same personel.
On a side note, I saw them on tour circa 1975 or 76 and it was great, in an overblown bombastic laser's refracted off a mirror ball til the entire arena was a mass of green bits of light kind of way. Only later did we find out that they were able to recreate their lush, full sound with the prodigious use of backing tapes.
Thank god punk came along. It doesn't mean I don't have a soft spot for a lot of the songs. Both bands' versions of Do Ya, for instance.
i've been trying to discover the music before my time (simon and garfunkle, the beatles, stevie wonder, bee gees) and music outside of the genres I listened to growing up (journey, nirvana, guns n roses)
I should credit paul thomas anderson for this latest purchase.
Love, love, love ELO!!!!!! Thanks Jrb!
I adored them, back in the day. Still do, I suppose. My favorite is "Turn To Stone".
I love ELO. I once had a surgical procedure and the doctor was playing ELO in the operating room and it made me feel calm. ELO always makes me think of Boogie Nights.
Because it was part of the soundtrack
Oh, ok. I hated that film, and don't even recall the soundtrack.

I've never purchased one of their albums but they are amazing. One of my really good friends (the girl who allowed (sorry about my spelling, I am quite intoxicated) me to survive high school loves them.
There are at least 2 ELO songs in Boogie Nights.

OMG really?
Love them. I've always been partial to them, growing up... ever since they used that iconic photo of Margaret Hamilton's hands being shocked by Judy Garland's red slippers on their "Eldorado" album cover:
Actually, I liked them even before that. Such an unusual band with an unusual, unique sound.
Favorite song (also one of my all-time favorites from the '70s):
Mr. Blue Sky
Absolutely brilliant music.

Yes, I love ELO too. My biggest regret about the band, is that Roy Wood never stayed and added his little bit of Wizzardry to the proceedings.
I saw a Roy Wood (Big Band) gig about three years ago, simply stunning, all the old magic is still in place. Consider also, checking out Roy's work with The Move. Flowers In The Rain, was the first track ever played on BBC's Radio One, when it was launched in the sixties...
Jerby: Check out XTC, great band. They ran the gamut from punk - to power pop - to pure melodic pop. Look for an album of theirs called, APPLE VENUS, PART 1. and it's follow up, WASP STAR, PART 2. In the last year it's been released as a twofer with a 2 bonus CDs of demos. In my view, an essential addition to anyone's collection...

I saw them back in the day w/ Bad Co opening up.
I didn't meet any of them tho.
that's very out of the ordinary for me. The not meeting the stars, that is.
ELO is great... but personally I prefer ELP (Emerson,Lake and Palmer)...
