Thank you. All points taken into account. I'm glad you feel that the quality of the film surpasses the other nominees.

I have a relative who has recently become paralyzed. I don't want people in her situation to feel like they have nothing to live for. But I respect that this is art and that messages may be interpreted in different ways.

Sorry about any family situation but it's a M-O-V-I-E! How about the Pro-plane crash bias in Aviator? Should we protest that? Or the Pro-adultery bias in Titanic? (or in Sideways I guess for that matter)
I think a LOT more people are going to consider adultery than will ever have to consider the moral dilemma in MDB. I think the Right wing folks who are whipped up about this need to find some REAL issues to fret over! Isn't Sponge Bob gay or something?

Do people really get a message from a movie? I think this is a pretty spurious argument myself. It's a movie. Period. MDB is a beautifully written story and the ending was fitting, for that particular story. I didn't see it as a morality play, by any stretch of the imagination. It was the story of those two characters and how they dealt with their situations in life. Reaching generalized conclusions on issues by seeing one movie is rare, I would hope.
