The three films with gay themes may in fact be terrific and the subject matter important, but the fact that they are coming out of Hollywood and being overly celebrated in an "in your face" manner, probably makes many less inclined to view them.
So -- what he's saying is if these movies had come out of Branson, and no one was marketing them, that would have been hunky-dory. Tell me again: Why does the Washington Blade print this guy? It's about akin to how Mark Fuhrman became a crime expert for Fox News.
