i kind of know the story of "the magic flute" but was wondering if someone could give a brief, but concise, synopsis - i am going to see it saturday night on a date and don't want to look like a complete idiot.

Ever hear of Google?
What would you tell your students if they asked you this question? Go to a message board? Or perhaps the library?

snarky mcsnarkerson...
Seriously, a TEACHER coming to a message board wondering what one of the Classics is about?
im sorry dink, im an ENGLISH teacher not an OPERA teacher - i know the basic story, just wanted to know a bit more - the synopsises i found were kind of long, drawn out and dry and i thought someone here could give it to me in plain english - not a bunch of snipes.
welcome to the short attention span classroom where the ritalin flows and everyone gets a chance to post on a real live broadway board!
i weep for the future.
*taking notes on what NOT to do as a teacher...*

I'm beginning to wonder if Children&art is really a teacher. What teacher in his/her right mind would bring BroadwayWorld.Com up on the screen for a class assignment in the library? Some of the topics discussed here really aren't suitable for students and some of the responses given to even the most innocent query can be salacious--to say the least (and I'm guilty of doing this!)
BTW: most opera companies today have some sort of translation device, so the English version of the show can be read either from screens on the stage or on the back of the seat ahead of you.
