This is another one of those rant threads but I just can't believe this person! I was walking down the stairs to the 1 train and carried a large flat package. A guy coming up the stairs crashed into me. I fell, my (fragile) package almost folded in half, and there I am sitting on one of the steps. The guy kept going up the stairs-didn't say a word. I yelled out Hey, you knocked me down-you don't even say excuse me? And then he said F*** you, bitch!
I'm sorry but I can't believe this-it really bothered me.
I know this thead means nothing and there's nothing anyone can say. I just wanted to tell someone about this! thanks for obliging me.

I hate to say it,
Welcome to New York!
Even though you're a long time resident, this is the only explanation I can give.

Sorry to hear that. People in NY can be A** holes. Last night I was getting out of my car and when I opened the door I hit someone on their bicycle and they fell. I tried to apoligize but he just wouldn't let me. He kept going on and on cursing and said f***k you and rode off on his completely un-harmed bike. There was nothing wrong with him, his bike was fine, and I apoligized. That would be enough for me if I wasn't hurt.
sorry for rambling.

This thread is making me laugh for the wrong reasons.
This morning on the D train, there was a fight between two women--a native and a tourist--after the tourist whacked the native with a stroller. After the fight, and after some fool pulled the brake in the middle of the tunnel thus stranding us all together for 20 or 30 minutes, the native yelled, "Welcome to New York, bitch." The pushy tourist ended up with quite a welt on her face.
So see, Jane? The karmic balance against rude people was shifting as this happened.

Calvin, thanks!
I should add that when I finally did get on the train, a cute nice girl asked me if I had a painting inside the package. I showed her that it was a large photo of mine, she complimented me on it, and we got to talking about that guy and I told her she balanced out the bad with the nice things she said to me and I thanked her!

Posted: 11/6/06 at 3:26pmActually a travel website did a test of many major metropolitan cities and New York was near the top for people going out of their way to help others. There are jerks wherever you go.

Posted: 11/6/06 at 3:32pmYou are right, son. I guess I'm lucky if this jerk was the worst I've come across in my own experience. There are just as many good guys around here.

Posted: 11/6/06 at 3:37pmVery true. I would rather spend an hour in a cage with the meanest person in New York than a few minutes with the meanest person in Vidor or Jasper, Texas.

Posted: 11/6/06 at 3:40pmI am sorry you had this experience. I suffer through this every day on the subway because I just can't allow myself to believe that people can really be this nasty. The more a person can't believe it (and thinks they can change it), the more suffering they'll experience. For instance, I walk at what I consider a normal pace. However, there seem to be huge throngs of people for whom I am not fast enough. Last week, what appeared to be a spoiled brat Upper East Side student was walking behind me, and when I wasn't fast enough for him, he literally whacked me on the back to push me out of his way. I am not a violent person, but I was so infuriated that I whacked him back when he weedled his way in front of me. Then as he was running down the subway steps, he gave me the finger. My question to all of you, though, who say "Welcome to New York" is this: Do you really think these people are mostly New Yorkers? I don't think so. I think a lot of them grew up in completely different environments and don't know how to handle themselves. As for the guy who pushed me, I think he's a brat whose parents never taught him right from wrong.

"Welcome to New York" ???
That's not relevant. For the most part, New Yorkers are far kinder than some reputations suggest. In fact, I'm surprised no one else stopped to help Jane.
That being said, there are plenty of ass*****in the city, as I'm sure there are everywhere.
Jane, I wish you had taken a cue from M and beat his ass!

"Why make a topic about this?
Handle it and move on.
Just because someone did something you don't like you have to air it around the board....My God, highschool is over."
Janey..here's some good advise I got from a poster on another thread...thought i'd share it with you.
