the natives are getting restless. the arrogance and disdain with which they are treated will eventually turn enough of them off to the point that the press corps will be disbanded and only those selcted by the white house will be allowed an audience with his holiness.
and not one question on iraq or afghanistan? in the face of mulitple bombings in iraq and the deadliest predator attack to date in afghanistan?

While Dana Milbank is not alone in showing contempt over this, he comes across as petulant and whiny. The fact is, the HuffPo reporter (Nico Pitney) has been scooping absolutely everyone on the events transpiring in Iran. In addition, though Pitney was sought out by Obama, the question was not a cream puff, and I don't think there's any indication that Obama had prior knwoledge of what the question would be.

Shifting winds, Joe.
I happen to like Dana Milbank and I love a skeptical press - in every administration.

I thought the Pitney situation, and basically asking him if he could find a way to ask a questions on behalf of the Iranian people, was smart. Pitney posted the possibility that he might be asked to present a question from an Iranian, and asked that questions be submitted so he could discern the right one to ask, if in fact he was going to be called on. He apparently asked one of the most common questions submitted.
I get that the beltway reporters are not happy, but they have also been way behind the curve on this issue, and Pitney and Sullivan have been amazing in reporting on events in Iran, and in culling/creating sources and contacts in Iran. A very thoughtful question about Iran was asked and a thoughtful answer provided. On Sullivan's blog, there is a poster that argues that this was a shrewd attempt at psychological warfare with the Iranian government - demonstrated that the US will answer questions, when their own leaders will not.
I sometimes like Milbank, and other times I don't, which is I guess about right.

Posted: 6/24/09 at 12:49pmSo what's the point? I mean I know you got to rail at the guy cause he's undoing 8 years of neocon like so much raveled knitting, but really, what's the point? He took the question from the Huffpo guy and it was more interesting than the others. "The press has turned from lap dogs to attack dogs" is the new story? that's a good thing right? I mean, we could bring back the hustlers to ask why the other side doesn't love America.

the irony of huffpo having attacked the bush admin for allegedly planting questions now is being used by the obama administration to plant questions.
i know, i know, nothing to see here. when democrats do it it's completely different. i look forward to your justifying it when he declares martial law: "it's clearly necessary to preserve order and prevent the kind of chaos that too much freedom brings. anyone who is afraid of this clearly has something they are ashamed of. saint barry will take good care of his. he always keeps his promises and never, ever goes back on his word. i think it'll be nice not to have to bother with all those choices."

See, that's where you lose me. It is true that the WH told Pitney that he may be called on, in part because they wanted to answer a question from an Iranian.
The question itself was not a plant - he had no idea what it would be.
It was possible that Pitney would be called on, but no one vetted the question. If Obama wanted to answer a question from an Iranian about what is going on in Iran, do you have a better suggestion?
He could not let Pitney know that he might be called on if he wanted him to solicit questions.
Your hate for the POTUS is somewhere between comical and creepy.

hate? i hate no one. i think the real issue is the self-loathing you must repress everytime you apologize for or excuse or spin in walter duranty fashion another of the administration's grotesquely obvious flaws, failures, lies and or ciminal activities. i think you probably realize that you've become the very thing you supposed to loathe during the bush administration: a blind apologist who refuses to even consider that the administration might be something less than the greatest thing since sliced bread. i understand that such a realization must really, really hurt, ywiw, no matter how much you work to deny it and that you can only cope with it by projecting it onto others, so i can take it. i mean that's what friends are for: to be there when their friends realize that they have become the democrats' goth and roxy.

Papa, to be fair, folks here have been very critical of Obama. But you're accusing them of planting questions, and that just didn't happen.
A much better critique of Obama is how he mishandled the question that tried equate the images of Neda with the torture photos that have been censored.

You really have me confused with someone or something else. I was a Clinton supporter, when voted for Obama because McCain was not a viable option.
Am I giving Obama some time to see what he does, yeah. He has been in office for about 4 months, and has multiple big old stinking piles of crap to try and address. I don't agree with all of the decisions he made, but I understand the logic behind it.
Do I approve of everything he has done, no. But, then I did not expect to agree with everything he says or does.
If, after the first couple of years he has implemented policies to address what I think are much needed changes he will not get my vote in 2012. It is as simple as that.
For the record, I have been relatively satisfied with his foreign policy activities to date.
But go ahead, put me in whatever category makes it easier for you to dismiss criticism of your nearly pathological desire to undermine/attack/marginalize him. I understand we did it to Bush - but that was after he screwed up so many things he earned the contempt. If in a couple if years is turns out that Obama is everything you claim him to be, I will turn around and say "papa told me so." It is possible, but in my opinion unlikely to happen.
And MB - facts don't get in the way of papa's perceptions. Somehow Pitney is the same is Jeff Gannon. I am not sure how he gets to that conclusion, but those are the facts as papa sees it.

Posted: 6/24/09 at 1:52pmBut this administration IS the greatest thing since sliced bread- or at least FDR. He's getting more done in 4 months than Bush did in eight years. The Republicans don't know whether to **** or go blind- so they are blindly ****ting everywhere they can. The guy gave one speech and democracy is breaking out in Iran. The Ayatollah had to give a speech saying ENGLAND was the problem because Obama is so popular among young Iranians. He's going after banking reform, financial reform, health care reform- good god, he got TOBACCO put under the FDA's purview. No wonder you're panicked.

You're just funny.
I will admit, I want him to be right, because that will mean that things will get better quicker for many that are struggling.
But, other than wanting what is best for this nation I have no vested interest in Obama either way. If he cannot fix what ails us, then he can't.
I wanted Bush to be right about Iraq, even though I opposed the war. (I actually thought a month or so in "damn, maybe I was wrong, maybe he can pull this off"). Then it all feel apart.
Perhaps I react too strongly to your overzealous rants, but all I have vested in Obama is that I want him to succeed so this country succeeds. What we had been doing for the past 8 years was not working, and something had to change. Whether this is change for the better or worse, only time will tell. I am hoping that this is change for the better, and you clearly are assuming this is change for the worse.
EDIT: can someone send me some bleach for my soul - papa has been nearby and there is this sulfur smell now that won't go away.

OK - I don't watch him much because I find him a wee bit insipid and too insidery (there also seems to be permanent spittle on his lip). He also hated Hillary about as much as Hitch and Sullivan did, so he got a wee bit long-toothed during the Primary.
Lately I haven't been watching much of anything on TV except NCIS reruns and some mob-up housewives flipping tables.
