just because i was listening to jane's addiction tonight.
thanks, hon. Ok, well, I'm going to try to explain why I loved the film. First-the atmosphere. I was totally transported into Japan because of how well Sofia (if she really directed) put the elements together. For me, half the battle in films is won if I'm transported into it and I don't start looking around the room. Everything worked for me-the art direction, music, camera work, lighting, everything made me feel like I was there. And nothing much really happened in this film, action-wise. It was a very simple story and I could believe it. I loved Scarlett Johannsson in this, and Bill Murray was good-his playing of a bored with career and life guy who comes across someone who wakes him up was right. Unfortunately, I watched the film too many times in a row when it was on cable and I finally got tired of it, but now, I think I could use another dosage.

Let's explore this. Are there rumors to the contrary?
Nothing more than the usual type of talk-that her father helped, stuff like that. I guess some people can't imagine that she could be a good director. I don't know why, maybe based on her "acting" skill in Godfather III. I have nothing against her, so I'm not judging.
i would have loved it for kevin shields' music alone.
What do you mean, you would have loved it? Did you see the film? Yes, the music was wonderful.

I thought Virgin Suicides was so overrated, but LIT I really enjoyed. I loved how it just sort of wandered about it. I loved how it made Japan look (I've never been there but the film made it look appealing), I loved Anna Faris in her small part.
When it was over, I thought that for the first time I understood what people meant when they called a film a "character study."
i was exercising a touch of hyperbole in inferring that even if the film had been a godawful mess that kevin's tunes would have been worth it for me. but, yes, i did see it and i walked out feeling better than i did when i walked in. it's hard to put it into words.
