I'm doing my Summerstock mailings.
So I have my cover letter, headshot and resume.
Should I staple my headshot and resume together so they don't get lost from one another in a pile?
And if so- should I put the shot or the resume on front? or should I have the resume on the back of the shot?
I know that theoretically, you shouldn't staple anything being sent via US Mail.
Glue Stick is your friend.
You should staple the resume to the back of your headshot.
NO GLUE (sorry, rath)
Many auditors like to pull the two apart and look at the headshot and resume at the same time.

hehe but they're not as scared in Canada.

Hmmmm...I've heard arguments against staples lately. Do whatever you want, JID!
Your name is on the resume, your name is on the headshot...
A clip works, a staple works... glue sounds like a bad idea.
No...REALLY...staple.
You don't want to take the chance that they'll file your info somewhere and then the two may get separated.
I'm against the paper clip. That's risky.
Of the posters on this thread, I would be inclined to take Robert's advice. I'm not 100% sure about everyone else, but I know he does this for a living.

haha
it's kind of a ridiculous question but one that no one really knows a definite answer to!
thanks for the advice!!
The staple thing is a USPS thing... when it goes through the sorting machines, the staples can tear the envelope and the contents get damaged... even get lost. We usually use round stickers in lieu of staples.
That said... I have received stapled items in the mail.
Your call.
Believe me...I spent and entire class one day discussing these very important subject. And the teacher (who also ran a very large regional theatre) kept saying 'Staple! Staple!' and everyone kept coming back with 'But spray mount!!!'
Eventually, we all just listened to him.

okay, staple it is!!
Now my question is....
Although my resume can be cropped to 8x10 to fit nicely with the headshot, it was obviously printed on 8.5x11, and I'd hate to risk making it look sloppy by cropping.
Should I just staple the headshot to the front of the resume so it can be flipped up to look at the resume?
This is the thing I hate MOST about the headshot/resume deal. Casting directors expect them stapled to the back and to be cropped to 8x10. It's the WORST.
I tried to get Kinkos to crop them for me. They said they didn't do that. I think they were lying.
Invest in a paper cutter. It will save you a lot of time.

Staple is the BEST choice by the way and as far as the resume, YES cut it down. Take it to a kinkos or something similar and they will cut it straight for you. :)
Now THAT'S some of the best advice to give an actor!

No, only 2, one at the top in the middle and one at the bottom in the middle.

No. One staple in the center of the top of the sheets, one staple in the center of the bottom. Staples only. Glue and paperclips and other methods are not pleasant to deal with. Crop it (if you work in an office, just use the paper cutter there) and make sure it's not on an angle (and just for the record so that no one thinks I'm talking out of my rear end, I've worked for a good number of NYC agents and heard a lot of complaints about various headshot submissions).
