I was at Costco today and they are selling a record player that plays straight to CD recorder. For less than 50 bucks, you can do a direct transfer of your beloved LPs to CD in real time.
Maybe you guys knew that but I didn't. Now I can finally clear out 10 boxes in the storage locker (and put the resulting five DVDs in a drawer!)

I got my one a little nicer version of that for her Mac.
Dolly - the reason it is so nice is because you can transfer it to your MP3 player and listen to it with today's technology.
There are many songs that are not in a digital format, and my mom squealed like a teenager when we got her one for Hannukah.
It is very time consuming - it transfers in real time, so you start recording, and them come back 35 minutes.
And, I suggest getting an external hard drive if you don't have one, because the recordings take up a lot of space!

I had something similar, and it's great for any deleted material you treasure, but I'm now so used to the quality of CD'S that I don't enjoy listening to the pops, hisses, and everything else associated with vinyl.
The pass you get from these machines seem to highlight all the sounds you don't want.
A lot of purists prefer the warmer fuller sound of vinyl, but I've adapted. Having spent a large part of the last fifteen years chasing down CD'S to replace the hundreds of LP's I took to the local dump, I reckon the new way is the best way, for me at least: - )
