I am such a loser. I've never even heard of this show. When's it on? Which station?
Papa, I have NBC. Consuming bull semen and horse penis have both been stunts on Fear Factor.
yeah, that's pretty much what i figured, but still...
personally i find fear factor much more repugnant than superstar as it totally enforces an idea that anything you can do for money...you should!
damn, i know i'm gonna have to give back my neo-con decoder ring after that.
I don't mind Fear Factor as much. It's a milder form of the Japanese endurance shows that ran years ago. Most of the stuff they do are physical challenges. Sometimes they have to eat nasty stuff, but they know it going in. No one is saying they "should" do these things for money (including a disclaimer at the opening telling the audience specifically not to do these things). They are saying, "are you willing to do this?" for the money. If they don't want to, they walk away, but no one is being tricked or lied to. Mostly, the show is about closeups of girls removing their clothes, which I find hilariously silly. They never show the guys getting undressed, but they are sure to devote time to every girl while stripping to her bikini and adjusting herself. Is the show morally repugnant? To a degree, yes. I can't watch the gross eating part, but I find the physical stunts quite fun and interesting.
The only shows I watch regularly are Will and Grace, Everybody Loves Raymond, Law and Order (original and SVU, I can't stand the guy on CI), Everwood (don't say it, I know), Coupling (waiting for the 3rd season) and the TLC/BBC improvement shows like Trading Spaces, While You Were Out, Changing Rooms, House Invaders, Ground Force, What Not to Wear, Cash in the Attic, Faking It, House Doctors, For Better or For Worse and Overhaul (but not when Jarico's in town, he hates them).
I just caught My Family on BBC last night and really liked it. Sometimes, I'll watch The Office, but it is so uncomfortably tragic, I have a tough time sitting through a full episode.
"Even in American Idol, everyone who auditions signs a contract saying that they give FOX the right to use their image anyway they see fit and it includes making fun of them. They know the possibility going in. Same with this show."
yes, but in american idol the people are told the TRUTH about their talents, that is not the case here. and again, they tell the good people they are no good, which is almost worse than lying to the no-talents. i understand what a guilty pleasure is, but if you need to get your cheap primetime thrills, then dammit, watch everwood.
Well, that's a matter of opinion. The little Hawaiian girl had no talent in my opinion, yet she made it this far.
I'm sorry, Matt, did you mention bull semen?
matt, that is a completely different story, and you must be aware of that Updated On: 5/20/04 at 02:29 PM
Zola, yeah I mentioned bull semen.
"You put the 'uperstar' in 'superstar'."
Funny stuff.
Oh my dear Jesus, this show is on right now and my panties are getting wet I'm laughing so hard. This is the meanest thing I've ever seen and the only thing I can say is GENIUS!
Matt_G - I'm curious....what do you find funny and genius about it?
Just the sheer curelness behind it entertains me like nothing else. It really does brings out the sadistic part of me. I'm laughing SO hard when I'm typing this!
I have a new favorite show. I understand people not liking it, but don't knock people that do find this hilarious!
Um....I kinda do knock people who find it hilarious. So you equate mean with hilarious and genius?
Sometimes, yes I actually do.
And hey, at least I shut off the porn long enough to watch some actual TV!
I wouldn't call it TV. Or hilarious. Or genius. It is just depressing.
Well I would disagree. And that my dear Mr. Matt, is why they make different shows for different people. (I still love ya, though.)
Cruelty is never funny.
mm sun of a gun is a qt,, and also nystate...and also SonofMammaMiaSam... and Zola Q. LaPlaya
but ne who...
i think its kinda funny... well who doesnt? but again its really sad and horrible... well its only funny when its not you the feelings they crush. You never know maybe it was a setup?? ehh ehh?
I just watched the encore airing of the first two episodes last night. That's quite enough for me. This is the cruelest, nastiest show I have ever seen.
I can't believe anyone thinks thinks this show is fun. These poor, pathetically bad singers are told that they are wonderful and are taken to Hollywood where they are given and opportuinty to shop for the big beautiful houses and cars they will be able to buy after their recording contract. then the big finale is telling them on national tv that they actually suck and have been made fools of.
Anyone over the age of 14 who finds this entertaiuning has got some real issues to work out.
I think 14 is too much credit. It's more like 12. Getting kicks out of being mean is very junior high.
agreed. how is it doing, ratings wise? i really hope it isnt a hit, that would be such a terrible testiment to americas mentality. an accurate testiment, but terrible nonetheless.
I'm not going to let anyone make me feel ashamed for enjoying this show. I've gotten a ton of private messages from people who told me they love this show (Even you guys who posted here that you hated it!) so just let the people who like it enjoy it and if you don't like it, than DON'T WATCH IT!!
In a semi-related topic, nystateofmind - I have to amend my previous statement that Canada has 2 TV stations airing this guilty pleasure.
After rewatching the season premiere ad naseum over the weekend, I've discovered there are actually 4 stations and counting.
Regards,
Your Friendly Sadistic Neighbour to the North, eh.
P.S. Nina "The Diva" as Mimi in Rent, anyone?
