my result:
you are the plain meaning rule! you interpret statutes according to what an ordinary speaker of english would understand from the text. you're upfront and direct. you claim that you're just following the rules, but often find a clever technicality to interpret the rules however you want.

Posted: 1/24/06 at 7:26pmYou are Interpretation in Avoidance of Constitutional Questions! You presume that the legislature doesn't intend to draft unconstitutional stautes and so you interpret them so that you won't have to reach a constitutional decision. Some criticize you for implicitly making constitutional law, but without stating your reasons. You like to stay away from difficult decisions. You're kind of a weasley little bastard.

You are "Noscitur a socii"! You look to neighboring words to shed light on the meaning of ambiguous words. You're a sociable canon, and always look at everything in context. However, you're useless by yourself.

You are the Rule of Lenity! You interpret ambiguities in penal statutes in favor of the accused. You're a laid-back kind of rule and concerned with not being too quick to judge. You're soft on crime.............

You are the Golden Rule! You presume that the legislature would not want to apply the statute to achieve an unreasonable or absurd result inconsistent with its purpose. It's not what's on the surface that matters for you, and you try to do what's best in any given situation. You're a bit unpredictable, but you don't mind.
This is a great quiz! So perceptive. So accurate. I applaud the designers of this quiz. Where do I sign up for Supreme Court Overlord of All Things True and Just?
Seriously, papa, what a fun and original quiz. Thanks for finding and posting it!

Posted: 1/24/06 at 8:22pmBest and Papa, there was nothing in Question 1 that said you were romantically interested in the person of the "opposite sex" or that you were intending to ask them for a date. It only said you wanted to know if they were married or taken.

It wasn't hetero-centric questioning. It was poor grammar questioning. On the "opposite sex" question, it suddenly jumps from singular to plural pronouns in an attempt to be gender neutral. A big no-no.
