Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:29amMe! I only burned a few cast recordings to it, and it took me awhile to get everything started, but it is so much more convienent than carry around CDs everywhere (unless I'm driving). Another thing was, though, my CDs are badly scratched, so on one of the songs it skipped for 2 seconds at the end, which transferred to the Ipod and skipped...I think I fixed it.

Thanks Rentaholic! I am already loving my ipod! Millie and I have decided that Glinda was the most appropriate name.
I am currently transfering more songs as we speak!

!!! You ran out of 1000 songs??
Thats so many. So far I only have like 30 songs being used. I have so many cast recordings, but I am only taking the songs that I love love love from each. What is the name of your ipod?

Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:04pmWhat's the advantage of buying an IPOD Mini as opposed to the new Zen Micro by Creative. I'm not interested in anything larger than 5GB. The Zen Micro is Windows compatible, plays MP3s, WAV files and WMA files, comes with FM radio, voice recorder, 12-hour rechargeable battery, and is available in 10 different colors. The Zen also has a "shuffle" feature, which I'm not sure the IPOD has. I believe it's priced lower than the IPOD Mini as well, at approx. $249.00. Seems like you get more bang for your buck with the Zen. I'm thinking of buying one as a birthday gift and I'm trying to make an informed decision. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:08pmCurtainUp- What I've found is that Mac is best at the "little things"- those minor points of functionality that don't seem so minor anymore once you actually start using the player. Their click wheel is the best navigation system, and their software is cleanly written and easy to use. If you don't want anything more than 5GB, though, you might want to consider another player. Just look up a ton of customer reviews to be sure the product is reliable and doesn't have any small, super-annoying quirks.

Curtain Up - I'm not sure how many GB iPod Mini has, but it is also $250 (pretty certain) and holds 1000 songs. (regular iPod: $300, 5000songs (20GB) or $400, 10000songs (40GB)).
All iPods have shuffle feature. I don't think the battery life is quite as long. Regular iPods are white and aluminum...minis come in I think 5 different sleek colors. iPod IS Windows compatible. Not sure about radio and voice recorder, but iPod can hold pictures and other files I think...I'm not really into that stuff, so you'll have to look into it. Unless you really want the radio or something, I would get the iPod mini because it is the same price, it is fun to work and easy (once you get the hang of it), and it has already become my best friend.
Good points from Plum, too.

Thanks Plum and Rent for your input.
Zen Micro supposedly stores up to 1250 songs at 128kbps and 2500 at 64kbps. I believe the IPOD Mini is 4GB, but I imagine that they'll be coming out with a 5GB version soon. I was drawn to the Mirco more so for the FM radio feature and the 12-hour battery life. Also, it supposedly comes with a spare battery. So you can be charging one while you're using the other. But what Plum was saying is true. Sometimes, a first generation device can have system quirks. It might be safer to go with the more established player. I have about a month to make my decision. So, I'll continue to investigate and compare.

As a rule of thumb, if I'm spending more than 200 dollars on something, I'm gonna get the established item. Even if it means paying a bit more, so be it. I'm not wiling to "take a chance" on a $250 knockoff. But maybe that's just me.
Plus, we have a Mac.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 2:31pmShould I wait for the next generation of iPods, or should I just give in to my urges and get one now? I'm hoping the 40gig one will be thinner and lighter on the next release (and maybe have a colour screen).

Posted: 12/26/04 at 2:34pmLook at the file format- if it's WMA it won't work on an iPod. You'll have to convert it. I'm not sure hw to do that, but I know there's free programs for it.

I like copyright law, so I've never had your particular problem. I just import from CDs.
If you want to find out the file format, look at the file properties and see the extension. If it's filename.wma, that's why you can't put it on your iPod.

I got a 40gb Creative Zen, quite big and not as cute but i love it to bits! It cost the same as a 20gb Ipod and if i hadnt heard so many 'bad in the long run' reviews on Ipods i probally would have got one but yeah so far i've loaded 150 recordings onto mine.....havent listened to many but my 4 hour train journey each day gives me a nice amount of time hehe!
Yeah i got mine last summer and im still loving it, all my mates got an Ipod Mini for xmas, and yeah im jealous of the style and size, but my Creative makes me happy

I have an iPod with about 3200 songs on it.
(that includes select songs from 115 musicals, which is far more than I thought I had on there. I was thinking it was more like 20 or 30.)
Mine is called "AieaPod".
But if I had to do it over, I think I'd name it "Melody"
Or "Harmony"
Or "Aria"
Or "Sonata"
Or "Samba"
Or "Mambo"
Or "Mix Tape"

I have become a self-addicted iPod mini lover. I cant help myself when I get the urge to play it-something just takes over and I'm in another world.
Love it! :)
