LOL! Yes, I did. I changed it. Fact is, you do hear the term "nigress" today. "What's happenin' my nigress?" Used ONLY by brothers (or is that brothas), of course.

When will there be just one acting Oscar? Why shouldn't Meryl be able to go up against Heath?

Because then the telecast would only be 4 hours and 36 minutes long.

"I don't know why the word actress went out of favor either, javero, and disagree that 'gender neutral' is better or more appropriate."
In that case, I'm going to lobby to bring back "editrix."
I assume that those who lament the fading of the word "actress" want similar gender-designating job descriptions for everyone, yes? "Lawyerette," for example?

I'm already starting to think of the female particpants on this board as "post mistresses."

What about a midwife. Would that be a midperson?
That sounds a little creepy.

But that only applies after the affair has broken off.

Well, if we're sticking with gender-specifics, then it's got to be midhusband.

Mailman = Postal Carrier
Stewardess = Flight Attendant
Seamstress = Clothesamatician
Congress = Stupids
Actress = Thesbian
Lesbian = Thesbian
Gay = Thesbian
Mattress = Matador
Medium = Large
There, now you can all go back to your lives.

I am all-for using non-gender-specific words whenever possible. HOWEVER, I do think the "awards" issue is a little tricky. I would hate to hear, "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Play" on Tony Awards night. That's even MORE offensive than "actress." It sounds like you're talking about a dog. Why not just call it "Outstanding Performance by a Bitch in a Play"? Doesn't work for me.
