This is a conversation with my aunt and uncle.
Bernie (me) is wearing Wicked shirt. U is uncle, A is aunt.
U-Are you feeling wicked right now?
B-Where would you get that idea?
U-Look at your shirt.
B-It's talking about Wicked the musical.
U-There's a musical called Wicked?
B-Yeah, it was nominated for 10 Tony awards.
U-Really? I've never heard of it.
B-It's pretty popular, I'm surprised.
U-Hold on. (calls out to aunt) Look there's a musical called Wicked!
A-Really? I didn't know about it.
B-I have to go to the bathroom. Have fun. (walks away with strange look on face)
Another conversation with neighbor.
Neighbor-Who do you think has great talent on Broadway.
B-Well, I think Sutton Foster's great...
N-Who?
B-Sutton Foster. She won a Tony two years ago.
N-Really? I have never heard of her.
B-Well, what about Kristin Chenoweth?
N-Who?
Thank god my mom needed my help in the kitchen.

Elphaba, if you knocked on a random person's door and said "Hi, do you know who Sutton Foster is?", I bet you that probably 1 in 20 might have heard her name.

I get people's frustration, but in general, if people asked me about rap and country artists, I would have no clue what they're talking about. Most of the 'stars' mentioned on this thread haven't really ventured out of Broadway, so if the person isn't a theater fan, why would they have an obligation to know?

All my friends listen to showtunes. I'm a lucky, lucky, lucky, girl. 'Cept for my stupid cousins who made fun of the fact I was listening to Bye Bye Birdie. I was close to slapping her.
