Porque?
And where are Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods?

Message: It's a pretty fishy list. Much as I enjoy Bells Are Ringing or Kismet, I'm not certain that they'd belong on a "greatest of all time" list when they were even considered a little creaky in their time. And they list is awfully parsimonious toward musicals of the 90s and 2000s.

Message: Not sure about this list. Where is:
Rent
Into the Woods
Urinetown
Mama Mia (though not great, it has proven to be a mega-hit and highly influential)

Message: Yah, this list is bogus. Even a casual musical theatre fan could come up with a better one, much less someone who did "research".

Message: Wow, that list is severely flawed... I was going to check out the book. Maybe not so much anymore...
This is 2004 and the only show they can come up with in the 00's is the Full Monty? Exuse me? HUH?
Not to mention it's missing a slew before that. Bleh.

Message: Well wether or not I agree with the list is not as intriguing (to me) as to read WHY they chose those selections. I'm looking forward to the release..

Message: Craig does have a point. The BroadwayWorld.com article says "the 101 most influential, popular, and enduring shows". So they are not necessarily the "greatest".

JCS isn't on that? Grrrrr.
No GREASE ???? Wasn't it one of the longest running musicals on Broadway until A Chorus Line????
not only isnt JCS on that list but what happened to NINE?
as a matter of fact just going down that list its kind of sad how the number of musicals listed dwindle down starting with the '70s...... the '90s only list 2 (!)
It looks like they were celebrating the first 50 years of Broadway....the recent past is rather neglected on the list...
What DID they put on the list?

Influential, popular and enduring pretty much defines greatness to me. Which is why there are puh-lenty titles that don't belong on the list. Updated On: 8/19/04 at 08:51 PM
Lil' Abners on there...but not RENT...um yeah...that's credible..

I know I am beating a dead horse here, but JCS. I mean it was the first staged Rock Opera. And it is one of the best musicals EVER. PERIOD!!!!!!
And RENT, my beloved RENT. It brought back actual musicals instead of revues. I mean that season, RENT was the only original work. And it started the whole contemporary musical movement in full force.
THE FULL MONTY? I think we can ignore this list.
I don't know if these people know what they are doing. At first, I thought they did, since they had PETER PAN on it.
But then I saw FULL MONTY and now I don't know what to think.

What kind of a nut would rate ZORBA, GRAND HOTEL, and THE FULL MONTY above CANDIDE, CAMELOT, and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE?
And LI'L ABNER was more significant and influential than INTO THE WOODS or RENT? This is a parody, right?
