Just a quick question - what's the standard running time of 1776? Is there an intermission built into the script?

It's around two hours and a half hours, if I remember correctly.
There was no intermission in the Broadway production. One was added for the tour, following He Plays the Violin -- similar to what was done for the film.

Just did a regional production this summer. It runs just over 2:30, with an optional intermission after "Momma Look Sharp."
They used the intermission at the last Broadway revival starring Brent Spiner. I recall specifically because two old ladies behind me couldn't stop complaining during intermission about how bored they were. Apparently they didn't appreciate the congressional debates!

In my opinion, an intermission after Mama Look Sharp makes Act 1 much too long. It ought to come at the end of the scene where Adams & Franklin say they are going to New Jersey. The act then ends on a lively, "up" note, and Act 2 starts with "Cool Considerate Men".
