WISHIHADATONY - "Often folks confuse affection for a recording with actual memories of what took place onstage."
I have quite vivid memories of what took place on stage and it was breathtaking. Most notable were Willamania and extended opening sequence, the rope tricks and comedy of Give a Man Enough Rope, the beautiful moon during My Unknown Someone, the hilarious dog antics during the Wild West Show, the abrupt ending of We're Heading for a Wedding (I'll never forget the girls hiking up their gowns to exit the back of the staircase shaking theirs heads in disgust), the charming family song The Big Time with clever hat choreography, the jaw-dropping (and funny) Custer's Last Stand living tableau (cut from the tour), the gorgeous Ziegfeld Follies sequence (like going back in time), the obvious show-stopper Our Favorite Son, the torch song 11 o'clock No Man Left For Me, the gorgeous parade of Ziegfeld girls and costumes during Presents for Mrs. Rogers (and poignant ending of the number with the Wall Street crash), and the simple yet effective Without You reprise and Never Met a Man finale.
Maybe it could be perceived as boring, but I honestly can't see how.

I have thought a lot about this post in the past fews days. It's really amazing when you think about it: Miss Saigon's reputation has soared in the intervening decade and the other three have pretty much vanished into obscurity. I was trying to imagine Will Rogers Follies or Secret Garden getting a major revival someday and just can't see it. I know Secret Garden gets done a lot by community and school groups and Saigon toured for a long time, but Once on this Island and WRF have all but disappeared (at least as far as I can see). It does say a lot about he ephemeral nature of theatre!
Incidentally, some one commented on the inlikeliness of the tours of the shows. I am all but certain that all four shows had national tours. Ah for the days when even Tony losers took to the Road!
i think a Secret Garden revival is pretty much a definate. It'll get done. likely, it will be better.

I hated Miss Saigon. I'm surprised that so many feel differently.
Although I enjoy and respect all of the shows that year (they're all GREAT,) WILL ROGERS' FOLLIES is my least favorite of all. My pick for best musical would have been THE SECRET GARDEN, closely followed my MISS SAIGON.
I'm with Munkus.
Secret Garden is simply breathtaking when done well. One of the very best musicals to grace the broadway stage.
SECRET GARDEN love......Ah, it's just so good. REBECCA! I LOVE YOU!
Can you believe she wasn't even nominated? A crime!
