It's a fairly weak story, but a lot of musicals are written around a really crappy story. We forgive them because the music and the visuals are wonderful, which is the case with Across the Universe.
I feel like the screenplay was just rushed. Someone said "Oh, we can just write the story AROUND the songs because they have names in them and such!" insted of sitting down and thinking "Okay, what does this song mean and how can we make it work within a story?". This wasn't the typical stage musical that's been written and re-written and previewed and re-written again and again and again until audiences loved it, it's a musical movie whose only selling point is that it has Beatles songs in it.
That said, I'll be buying it, because I love the music from the bottom of my heart. This coming from someone who doesn't even like the Beatles...

Is Todd Michel Smith in this movie?
I like how on BWW some people say that the script makes the film, yet everyone defends the script for UNIVERSE.
And Chason, I was referring to LOVE because they both have Beatles scores.
