Cathy, For the record I don't have anything against vampires per se. I very much wanted to like both of those shows, esp. Dracula, since I am a big fan of Jekyll and Hyde (before they f***ed it up by cutting the good songs and stunt casting the leading man that is). I am not the only one on this thread who has singled out these two shows as the worst they have ever seen. Frankly the only good thing I had to say after DoV was that the sets were cool, and Mandy Gonzalez sounded pretty. The book was awful and come on, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as the main Love duet? Give me a break. When I saw it, you could hear snickers thru the audience when they started singing that.
And as far as Dracula goes....my reaction was...ooo they fly alot...isn't that cool on such a small stage? ooo...gratuitous nudity. I didn't find one single song to be memorable...I feel like they all started at the climax of the song and went nowhere (Personally, I think Frank blew his wad on Jekyll and hasn't written anything as good since...but hey that's just me). Half the songs were completely unnecessary to the story. It just wasn't good. The performers did the best they could with the material they were given, and I appreciated that, but as a show, I felt it was just awful...glad I saw it for free (never a good sign when the house is completely papered the week of opening).
I respect that you enjoyed those shows. We all like different things. Hey, Aida is one of my favorite shows ever, and you don't see me attacking the people who said it was the worst thing ever....they have their opinion and I have mine. Again, I did want to like the vampire shows very much, but as much as I wanted to I couldn't. I just find it ironic that some of the worst shows I have ever seen are both about Vampires...
