I saw La Cage Aux Folles 2004 Brodway revival last February 2005. I love the show !!! I was wonderin' if they would record a Revival Cast Album at all? I havent heard any plans of recording deals whatsoever ?? Any news ???

According to what I've read elsewere on this message board, the producers have no plans for a recording. An online petition was started and sent to the producers in February, but I've heard little about a possible recording since then.
I saw the show this past Sunday and the recording of the original production is for sale in the lobby of the theater.
Other than "Good Vibrations" the revival of "La Cage Aux Folles" is the only new musical production of the 2004-2005 Broadway season not to be recorded and I think it is a damn shame.
CORRECTION(thanks, Thenadier) There is no cast recording for "Dracula" either.

Haha. That sucks. The Sweet Charity recording is already done - and coming soon. It seems like Charity is going to be much more successful than La Cage. Lets hope Charity can snag the Tony.
You are wrong Albin.
Dracula does not have one...yet.
(One has been recorded, not released)
I am praying for both La Cage and Dracula.

Is that Dracula recording of the OBC or are you referring to the "concept" album?
Studio concept album.
There has not been an official relase of an obc recording.

Why so nasty ljay? I wish nothing but the best for everyone involved w/ "Sweet Charity." If they win the best revival Tony, I will offer heartfelt congratulations but it will in no way dimish my love for the delightful "La Cage Aux Folles."
ps-I wonder if you'd be so cocky if there was no recording of the Sweet Charity revival...
I doubt it.
I haven't seen SC - but I enjoyed La Cage

I'm not being cocky. Sorry. It's just that for so long people trashed Charity - and expected and wished it to fail. And it's the total opposite now.
.. Oh and you can't really base Charity on their out of town show. It has changed since than.

not cocky? You could have fooled me. Seems like you're happy that there is no announced "La Cage" OCR.

I would like La Cage to be recorded too, just not with Robert Ghouluet.
Come on Marc, he isn't that bad. I heard him on Regis back in April and was horrified by his version of "Song on the Sand" but was pleasantly surprised this past Sunday at the Marquis. Hardly any of the vocal "swooping" that he did on Regis.
It seems that La Cage is going to win the revival Tony based on the other "pre-cursor" awards this season, but the truth is that it is just hanging on by a very thin thread. If it doesn't win the Tony (and CHARITY deserves it, IMO) it will shudder immediately.
And yeah, I think a recording is at this point pretty much out of the question.

Maybe if they win a Tony, a Cd may come out.
Of course, I AM a dreamer.
I definetly think if Charity takes the award - La Cage is in MAJOR trouble.

honestly I hope that La cage wins b/c I loved it so much!
also, does anyone have the link to the peitition for a La cage revival recording someone mentioned earlier? if it died, we ought to revive it and try again to get them to do a recording
Dont get me wrong- I love ALL musicals.. But Tony voters does not based their votes if a musical has disastrous past ? Dont forget ..that Sweet Charity had problems too during its pre-trial run.. they replaced some cast members too...
Besides a Revival is being judge how the musical was revived..
yeah.. Does anyone knows the link or website for Revival Cast Recording Petition????

It's really odd this show didn't get recorded. Even Pacific Overtures did!
I can't see them ever going back and recording it now, but it is good to look on the bright side and appreciate the bounty we had this season-- I can count 10 new Broadway Cast recordings from thsi season-- that has to be a modern record!!
Unless the cast is truly superior or if the score has been altered or had numbers added, there really is no need for every revival to be recorded.
In the case of LA CAGE we have a very fine original cast album on RCA - one of the first all digital cast albums made. It sounds fine and includes all the major numbers and most of the dance music. SWEET CHARITY has not only the fine original cast on Sony, but also a less-than-fine 1986 revival cast on EMI and the acceptable movie soundtrack on Decca.
I would rather the labels invested their limited $ in recording new or previously un-recorded scores.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
