what are your thoughts on why the good body was eligible for special event, and not play?

I didn't see it, though from what I read about it, it sounded more like a lecture/performance art piece than an actual play. Eve Ensler "played herself" right? I think this is PRECISELY the kind of piece that didn't easily fit the main categories and why they felt the need to create the "Special Event"/"Unique Theatrical Experience" category.

Well, because of the Special Event category, Billy Crystal is now the proud recipient of a Tony Award. Had he had to go up against Doubt for Best Play, chances are, he wouldn't have that trophy on his mantel today.

oops...I guess I should have prefaced this with the word "musical"...although thanks for reminding me about the plays...I have a habit of forgetting to mention them and there are always many wonderful ones to choose from on the boards.

Roundabout is doing House of Blues Leaves at the AA Theatre this winter, so it'll be a Broadway revival.

The website just says Winter 2006 at this point.
I really hope they get it right. I saw the 80s revival with Swoosie Kurtz, John Mahoney, Christine Baranski, Julie Haggerty, Ben Stiller, and Danny Aiello, directed by Jerry Zaks and it's on the short list of my all-time favorite productions/theatre experiences (I also have the PBS video and have watched it dozens of times over the years).
That production was so flawless and indelible to me that I'm having a hard time even imagining who might make for good casting in this revival.

I didn't want to start a new thread about Revivals, but in addition to some of the ones coming to Broadway in 2005/2006, I have some that I would really like to see and SHOULD (IMO) come back:
My Fair Lady
West Side Story
Funny Girl
Mame

Are they planning on ever wrighting a new musical? It seems like everything now is a revival. Don't get me wrong, I love to see old shows brought back, but one or two at a time. We're looking at practically an entire season of revivals here! I hope The Little Mermaid is not all we have to look forward too...
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

Wha? In musicals, at least, this season was overwhelmingly about originals. There were only 3 revivals, not even enough to fill the category. In plays, revival-itis is more of a problem, but there were still 4 very strong contenders in the original category this season, too.
