I know this has been discussed before, but that was quite awhile ago. Now that some new shows have opened, and new changes have been made to some shows what do you think? If you think this is stupid, just pass it by. What and who do you think will be nominated? I think its a little too early still to even try to predict the winners, but go ahead if you'd like. I think when the Tonys come closer, we should all start a "gentlemens bet" and see who has the most accurate predictions lol
my predictions
BEST MUSICAL
All Shook Up
Little Women
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Spamalot
BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL
The Frogs (possibly)
La Cage Aux Folles
The Wiz
Sweet Charity
BEST ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
Gary Beach
Daniel Davis
John Lithgow
Tim Curry
Tom Hewitt
BEST ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Sherie Rene Scott
Sutton Foster
Christina Applegate
Whoever ends up playing Dorothy
and thats about as far as i can go lol

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:24pmI was thinking Daniel might be under Supporting Actor, I saw the show though, he was great!

THE FROGS isn't a revival.
NATHAN LANE probably won't be nominated.
BROOKLYN will not be nominated for best musical over Little Women or any other new musical, except DRACULA.
It's too early to predict anything else.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:24pmNo, I don't think so. In fact I think I have a better chance of being nominated for Best Actress in a Musical than she does.

I don't think "The Wiz" is going to open in time for Tony judging. I've heard nothing about it so far...besides the fact that Dodgers might be pushing it back for a Fall opening.
Don't forget Sherie Renee for best actress. I heard her part is quite large in "Scoundrels" and that she definitely steals the show! And...even though I don't want it too...wouldn't Good Vibrations also pick up a nom for new musical?...and Lennon for that matter?...and The Light in the Piazza?

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:26pmIm just narrowing it down, usually there are only 4 or 5 noms for best musical. this is just what i think will be nominated, im not saying this will be "all" thats nominated lol

I think "The Light in the Piazza," "Pacific Overtures" and Joanna Gleason need to be on that list.
"Brooklyn" will NOT be nominated over "Little Women" haha.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:36pmI'm waiting untill everything opens to judge. Even todate, I'd change a thing or two on that list though.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:37pmUnless Christina Applegate turns out to be sensational I think you can hand the Tony to Sutton Foster right now!
#17re: 2005 TONY AWARDS
Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:42pmI wouldn't say that too early. Sherie Renee got absolute raves in San Diego...and Christina might turn out to be quite a surprise.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:48pmAbout The Frogs, it's not new, so it can't be under New Musical, and it fits the Revival category more than any other. It's the Nathan Lane and others adaptation, it wasn't just created

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:51pmPeople I know who've seen Dirty Rotten Scoundrels report pretty unanimously that it's Norbert Leo Butz who steals the show - that, in fact, it's his breakthrough role. Since he's one of the two leads, perhaps his name should be included here.

I didn't like Little Women...
I liked BKLYN better... but I can see why Little Women would easily win over BKLYN. I'm surprised that the BKLYN actors still have voices left.
And Sutton Foster was pretty good in Little Women.(I think she was better in TMM, but still.)

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:53pmWell...The Frogs never had a Broadway or Off Broadway run of any kind. I believe it was mounted at Yale and a few smaller productions...but they weren't commercial enough to qualify it as a revival.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 1:02pmFrom what I hear, Light in the Piazza is amazing. I doubt All Shook Up will get a nomination over it. And I have also heard that Victoria Clark is going to win the Tony for her role. She will at least be nominated.
