Is there still talk that Theresa Rebeck's "The Scene" might transfer to Broadway with Patricia Heaton?
Even if Deuce is god-awful, I can't imagine that Angela Lansbury won't be nominated. Even if the play is bad, I think she will be good, the show is likely to be commercially successful given the names attached, there aren't a slew of other candidates, and she is, after all, Angela Lansbury opening her first Broadway show in 23 years. Seldes might miss out if the play is bad, but I personally think Lansbury's got a nomination in the bag.
(I think Vanessa Redgrave is close to a lock for similar reasons, but IMO Lansbury is more of a guarantee than Redgrave is -- Lansbury is more beloved and she's been away a lot longer.)
I just saw LITTLE DOG LAUGHED. Julie White is giving one of the finest performances I have ever seen on a stage. It's been a long time since I've felt that no one else could play a role as well as the current actor, but Ms. White is truly one-of-a-kind. The perfect melding of performer and role. If she's not remembered at Tony time, the nominating committee needs to be overhauled.
Depending on which category she's deemed to be in and how the Tonys regard The Coast of Utopia, Jennifer Ehle might be a contender.
You're right, Rath.
At this point, the only thing that might completely shut White out of the running (as far as being given a fair shot at actually winning) is the fact that the show doesn't seem to have staying power. People just aren't seing the show, which is a shame because it's fantastic.
I don't think the show is fantastic in itself - the two women's parts are written very well, but the rest of it is kind of a mess.
I hope that won't count against White at Tony time, but again, it's the Tonys. I don't know why I would expect them to be distracted by a little thing like a great performance.
I am sticking to my choices of Best, Redgrave, Seldes, White, and Lansbury. The only other person I can think of is Tonya Pinkins. She really did deserve the Tony for Caroline, or Change, so will this make up for it? I am sure she will be brilliant anyway. I would also like to comment that all these actresses are older than 40 which I know is not uncommon on Broadway, but it is still great that older women are receiving such great work.
I completely forgot about Jan Maxwell. She is a theatrical goddess! I am just not sure about Coram Boy's reception.
Darlin', how often are you going to continue to bump your own thread? If someone has something to add, they will find the thread and do so. If you have something to add aside from "BUMP" then go right ahead. We get the fact that the thread exists. I don't see any other purpose in your repeatedly bumping it.
Sorry, it is just that I think that the musicals are garnering all the attention on this board. I think that the plays deserve more recognition.
Ms. Lansbury has never done anything remotely bad, even Prettybelle wasn't too awful, not that I saw it, I only heard the score and read a detailed synopsis of the mishaps and mayhem out of town in a very good Gower Champion biography last year. I doubt Deuce is bad and at this moment I can see her winning. No other actress deserves the title Actress with the most Tony wins than any other more than Angela Lansbury...okay maybe Victoria Clark, but she has pletny of time to catch up.

Well, Julie Harris has the title of "Actress with The Most Tony Wins" with 5 (plus an Honorary, for a total of 6), and most certainly deserves that crown (for whatever its worth). Lansbury's great, but so are/were Zoe Caldwell, Gwen Verdon, and Audra McDonald who also have four wins.
Don't kill me, but I never knew Julie Harris had that many. I thought the number was 4.
